Seems they have had a change of heart and decided to let her speak.

"BERKELEY, Calif. — The University of California, Berkeley, on Thursday said it would permit the conservative author Ann Coulter to speak on campus in early May, just one day after it canceled her appearance that had been scheduled for next week."

Berkeley really needs to get a grip on itself, becoming a real pain. Maybe the students should try study instead.

So the California taxpayer is picking up the tab on the extra security?

You do know that they have speakers with real topics that help folks sort real life issues that affect our future AND have nothing to do with politics or ideology.

You mean kinda like taxpayers had to pick up the tab for all the blm riots? I'm glad you also noticed how taxpayers keep having to pick up the tab for groups on the left being getting out of control.

RESEARCH FUNDING

2015/2016 Research Funding by SponsorEach year, the UC Berkeley campus receives well over half a billion dollars in research and other support from external sources. In the fiscal year ending June 30, 2016, UC Berkeley attracted $673.9 million in new awards. Many of these awards fund multiyear research projects and support expenditures that will be reflected in subsequent years. The federal government provided 55 percent of these funds, and California state agencies and other government sources, industry, and the nonprofit sector supplied the rest. Of the research funding provided by the U.S. government, the largest contributors are the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation.

i'm not saying anyone can't handle poorly constructed 'arguments', or that kids can't 'figure' out coulter.. i'm saying there has to be better out there to offer up. too bad gg allin is dead, he might be making the speaking tour rounds offering up 'alternative arguments'.

anyway, there's the internet now and any college campus/parents that think their kids are getting exposed to new 'ideals' via 'the grande college experience' needs to get up to speed. those who wish to hear coulter speak aren't there for her groundbreaking 'ideas' but because they're 'coulter fans'.

They seem to be lapping up the poorly constructed arguments of the MDL.  Weren't a great majority of the current students enthralled by Bernie Sanders re-packaging of socialism?

I'm pretty sure she was going to speak for more than 3 seconds and had alot more to say than that. Just because there are some things one says that are not worth listening to doesn't mean there aren't more things that are. Also, while not Berkley, we did see even people like Ahamadinajad get to speak. Surely, if he gets the mic she can as well?

This is the item the MDL will never admit and which you stated eloquently multiple times in another thread.  Anyone who is controversial on the Right that wishes to speak on most college campuses will be loudly protested turning it into a security question, and if they are loud enough they get a cancelation and thus an infringement of free speech.  However, you never seem to hear about a controversial speaker from the Left getting anywhere near the same treatment even from a university that may be considered more conservative.  It is an excellent example of the bigotry and hypocrisy of the MDL, as they keep telling us not to look behind the curtain, and only pay attention to their good intentions.

Yeah, when Ahmadinajad is considered worthy enough to speak but Milo or Coulter aren't you know there's a huge problem.

So what's the point? Ucal berkley manages a wide array of programs that benefit the public including Livermore Labs. Is the funding tied to the speakers list?

So you'd rather pay thousands of dollars to listen to Ahmadinajad than Coulter....hmmm ok. Did you read that link? Quite the stuff to "bring to the table". Coulter's got nothin' on him where being a whackadoodle is concerned.

i wouldn't pay thousands of dollars to listen to either of them speak. but if i had to choose between the two, a former president of iran over a cultural fart noise? i think a former president has more to offer, no matter the level of whackadoodle. see our current president, cray cray.

The point is Berkeley receives millions of taxpayer dollars.  The previous riot by the "left" caused 100,000 dollars in damage….that also gets paid by taxpayers. This was a result of Berkley's policy of telling the police to stand down and just let the rioters do what they want.

a great majority of voters supported bernie sanders and democratic socialism. either kids go to school to be indoctrinated or they go to school to be exposed to a host of ideas and think for themselves. which is it? probably up to the individual student but MDL, sure why not.
