If I file for AOS this week, when can I expect to be called for biometrics??
How long does it usually take from filing to biometrics date; and when do you get their letter with the date and time: weeks before?

(Our birthdays are in a month and we wanted to go on holidays for a few days, but I don't want to make plans and then have to cancel because of biometrics!)

I would say that you can expect the biometrics letter within 30 days from your NOA1, maybe even have your biometrics appointment within those 30 days.

You can check my signature to see how fast things happened for me if you like.

Maybe you can try to do an early walk-in if the date and time you get don't fit in with your plans. I did an early walk-in for my i-765 and it worked fine, but each office is different.

Ok, thanks. ..... I guess we'll have to think about it.

This process does take a lot of fun out of a relationship, doesn't it?

Not really, this process is very easy since I get to be with my man through every step of it. The visa process was way worse, one of the absolute hardest things I've ever done. AOS is a breeze this far.

Well, I agree on that!! I just meant that you can't freely go on holidays, or have a honeymoon... because you need to be checking the mailbox. -_-
But definitely, AOS is so much better than the whole visa process: you're finally together!! Having to say goodbye after spending months together, the big time difference, his absence... it was heartbreaking. Now I can see him every day. :)

We had are Biometrics letter within a few weeks at both the AOS and ROC stages.  I agree that it can be a pain when scheduling trips if you are waiting for USCIS responses, but as Scandi said, you can try for an early walk-in, or even possibly a later walk-in.  As to making plans, maybe research timelines to see, but that is up to you.

Good Luck!

I got my NOA'1 on November 5 and my biometrics letter on November 10 scheduled for the 21st of that month also. You might want to wait out the biometrics appointment and then make concrete plans of leaving town.

I got my NOA1 on Dec 16th and my biometrics appointment was January 20th. I actually showed up 2 days early unannounced without a reason and they took me in no problem, I just had to wait at the back of the line for an extra period of time because they prioritized those with appointments first.

Most people who show up early unannounced will get through no problem. The only posts I've seen where people get turned away is because they're too busy for walk-ins, just be sure to bring your I-797C for the biometrics appointment.
