Slaves had a dream of being free. And also possibly a dream of not being treated like things, animals, being raped, beaten, murdered, bought, and sold. Immigrants had a dream of a better life than the one they had. Immigrants would not prefer slavery, and neither did the slaves. I think both could agree on that. But one group came of their own free will, means, and efforts NOT the other way around. The African men, women, and children were quite satisfied with their lives in their own countries until they were brought here in chains.

Indeed. Came here of one's own free will isn't even in comparison to being dragged here in chains. My first paternal ancestor was a white guy. Guess what? He was a slave, though we used the kinder term 'indentured servant'. This often leads us to believe they signed their servitude of their own free will - but he certainly didn't. The British murdered a whole lot of his family, and offloaded the kids as servants to America to be rid of them. Because of his whiteness I'm certain he had some perks - but I can also clearly trace he didn't come here of his own free will. Once he came here though he was determined to get his freedom and he was more than willing to kill some Brits in the war. He traded himself to be on the front lines if it meant his freedom - it ended up meaning battle scars, imprisonment, and near execution but he got his freedom. African slaves didn't have the same choice was allowed to make. I can never understand when I come across history books in certain schools of thought that pander to the ideas Carson is pushing. It's insidious and disgusting, but I know why they say what they do.  Slaves didn't say to themselves, ''gee if I just do everything master tells me to and subject myself to daily rapes and beatings that my sons, daughters, and gggg grandkids will have a better life''. That's the real disgusting part of what Carson is saying...

     Perhaps because Obama didn't say it in the asinine way that Carson tried to. You know I've said before about Carson, brilliant surgeon, horrible speaker. Perhaps his brain just works faster than his mouth can handle, or maybe the human brain can only hold so much information before it's at a loss for much else. At any rate, no doubt Carson won't prove that notion wrong any time soon.
