I mean I do agree it is a little hypocritical for an outspoken environmentalist to pay to fly someone from Australia just to do eyebrows for an award show.

From the actual article it seems like she flew to LA to do multiple people's eyebrows. Perhaps she got it paid for, but it is very unlikely it was Leonardo DiCaprio personally paying for her flight. I'm sure she was going to be in LA regardless since she is such a niche industry and the biggest award show in LA would be a prime spot for her to do business.

I;m sure she'd be in LA regardless. It's award season and these types of services are always in demand.

Poor Warren Beatty. He noticed the card was wrong, and technically he showed it to his partner and it was Faye that announced the movie. He was suspicious, but it's hard to question things in front of a live audience, and broadcasting to millions.

he did notice! I felt SO bad for him, since was Faye the one that ended up announcing it, yet she ran away and didn't stay to clarify things. It is still confusing, since why would they not say anything if the card was for best actress?

I'm not a supporter of the ban and I'll admit I didn't watch it, but from what I saw on it on FB it seems delirious to me.

I didn't think it was that bad. honestly it was tame at best, kind of what would be ''expected'' in my opinion. The only one that actually mentioned anything during the speech was Gael García, and he just said he was against the wall. I felt that it was pretty mild and the craziness came with the best movie mistake.

La La Land, even if you love it, undeniably rests on the appropriation of black culture. Its very “escapism” depends on a quest for authenticity for those who can afford to choose their own soundtrack. Moonlight, symphonic, stylised, complex draws on those marginalised by the film industry. Moonlight is about emotional deprivation but it overflows with humanity. Obviously these are two very different movies but they are freighted with what they do and don’t say about race.

What some people saw in this mistake was again a cultural bias against black art, unconscious though it may be

This is why this mix-up mattered more than a bit of onstage awkwardness. What some people saw in this mistake was again a cultural bias against black art, unconscious though it may be. Some saw a conspiracy. Some saw the biggest award of the night undermined. This is hardly a paranoid reading when we keep seeing award ceremonies where black artists lose – Adele winning best album over Beyoncé at the Grammys, or the debacle of the Brits which has grime artists perform as though domesticated pets but will not reward them.

Who knew?

I have to say, I do believe it was a  weird, honest mistake. It is a movie that was still nominated, loved all around and won fair and square, I think it came down to the card, I am still wondering why they didn't say anything, but the pressure of live T.V and how tiny the ''leading actress'' or ''best movie'' are printed inside the card. I'm sorry I am completely in favor of Moonlight winning and more black art getting the recognition they deserve, I just feel that not every single thing is a racial issue.

You should have been in CEHST last year, everything was.
