How popular is nascar today vs F1? Husband likes F1, but even he doesn't watch it anymore.

I watch a couple of races on tv a year. I think the main reason for the decline is that I believe they required a restrictor plate on the carb to reduce the speed and horsepower. This is safer, but car wrecks are unfortunately a big draw. When you take away an element of risk, it does make it more about cars just going in circles. Maybe someone who is actually a nascar fan can join in.

huh, i read it was over the required restricor plate's increased motor coil infusion causing a reduction in muffler bearing efficiency. carburetor is nowhere near the muffler bearings

I think the decline of NASCAR started when they allowed Toyota to compete. NASCAR is for Americans and American cars.

I've raced half my life, and am a NASCAR fan, but even I am losing interest.  All the car bodies are exactly the same.  No difference Ford vs Chevy vs Toyota, just the manufacturers sticker.  They keep playing with the rules regarding points, and this year it just got a lot more complicated.  Big money ruined the sport. 

 

Wish there were a good 1/2 mile dirt track close to where I live.
