Hey! If you don't mind my asking, since there is so much discussion going on about when to fill out DS-160...have you guys started on this yet? I had to use the same form to apply for my visitor's visa a couple of years back, so I believe I can just retrieve that one and update it along w our case number - once NVC contacts us and I'll get a new application number for the ds-160. But have not tried it yet. Thought I'd wait on NVC to confirm 1st.

We have not, although I plan on having him start once we get the NVC case number. You can create a log in so the form can be saved and retrieved. Once he gets the letter/email from the embassy, he can submit it.

Do you know if the embassy mails the letter by post or email? I hate how unreliable the Indian mail system is...

I just checked my case status at CEAC and it says ready. Can I schedule my interview?

I haven't got Packet 3 in snail mail.

I'm confused.

Does anyone know if that works only via email and online for Germany?

Oh I'm not sure, that's a good question! That's what I was wondering too, if they do it electronically or via snail mail. Hopefully the faster of the two options 😊

So I changed my VJ cover photo to an image of a timeline of the last 4 billion years history of planet Earth. I think it accurately describes how long this process feels as we go through it (at least for me anyway). I am basically a trilobite that's looking a billion years in the future for our Visa.

you are taking way too long to get ur nvc number... when last did you call?

Nah, right now I am still within the average time for NVC received. Now, tomorrow, I will be on the wrong side of the average. :)

Averages aside, the process takes too long.

I've been calling every 3 days or so. So far everyone has been pleasant on the phone, except one, which had a bit of they couldn't be bothered sound to their voice. My luck so far has been my stuff taking a bit longer than others.

For Germany, you will get your Package 3 in the snail mail. After you gathered all your documents you will send them back also by snail mail. Package 4 will then be an email.

Hello! We just found out in USCIS site. We didn't tried to call bcos there is a date that if you didn't received the mail that's the time you request it again. And for sure if we call them they will say just wait for it. Btw, we got the mail today. I hope you got yours too. Goodluck!

This won't work for Germany. You can't even call but only email them. German beneficiaries have to send some documents to the embassy prior to the interview...in addition to DS-160 and paying fhe fee.

help guys! re the employment letter and bank statements - do they have a validity? how fresh do they need to be by the time you interview?

i am trying to figure out if its okay to request it now (my case just turned to ready) or wait until i get packet 3. i know it may be a while (a month or more) before my embassy sends me packet 3 and then another few weeks or so before i can interview. i know in some countries like here in the UAE (employment and bank statements needs to be fresh ie not more than a month old when you use it).

thanks!

I think you're good to go if you request your documemts now. My fiance also gathered all his paperwork prior to our packet 3. We didn't read anything about a validity of these documents...except the photograph and the police records, which should not be older than 6 months. FYI: We submitted the packet 3 at the embassy in Germany. Check you embassy website...perhaps you will find some detailed information specific for your country.
