here it says that vaccinations aren't mandatory :

K visa applicants are encouraged to get the vaccinations required under U.S. immigration law for immigrant visa applicants. Although such vaccinations are not required for K visa issuance, they will be required when adjusting status to that of legal permanent resident following your marriage. Applicants are therefore encouraged to fulfil these vaccination requirements at the time of the medical examination. See Vaccination Requirements for IV Applicants for the list of required vaccinations and additional information.

so is it possible to skip vaccinations and do it in US later on for AOS?

It is possible but it will cost you a lot of money - if you are able to, I advise you to get the vaccinations before or at your medical examination for K1 and save yourself the confusion, hassle and expense or sorting this out at AOS stage.

Good Luck :)

As above stated, probably cheaper to just do some during the medical since you're already there.

Not sure how France does it, but each location has different costs for the vaccinations; but some actually include them in the cost of the medical itself.

Does not hurt to get a couple done if needed.

I know, i just don't trust them here in Thailand

Also, I'm worried. I always get false-positive result for Tuberculosis test. I have heard people are waiting extra months if that happens. Is there a way to prove that you have no TB other than skin test?

We went through the same issue with my daughter, she always gets a false positive skin test, for the AOS she had the IGRA blood test at our local health department for no charge, same with two vaccines we were missing. You can also get chest X Rays, since they can show any damage to your lungs and might be sufficient for diagnosis of no TB.

It shouldn't take that long if you receive a false positive test. I get a false positive every time I have had one including while I was in the Army. A Chest X-Ray can verify that the test is negative.

Why wouldn't you trust Thailand for vaccinations? They are just as competent as any other medical facility. In fact Queen Saovabha Memorial Institute is probably one of the best places to receive vaccines comparatively . My fiancé made an appointment there for all of her vaccinations. When she told them that she was applying for a Visa to the US, they knew exactly what vaccines she needed. They also did a blood test to check and see if she had already been vaccinated for one type. Not sure if it was Hep A or Hep B. But none the less, they did a very good job. I think the cost for everything was about 6000 or 7000 baht for everything. She had to return 2 other times because some vaccines are in series but these were included in the price. There is a HUGE difference in price comparing here to there. Its probably best to just get them taken care of now, and save the money.

As I recall at my medical (in the UK) there was an xray taken, and I believed this was looking for evidence of TB. Not sure if medical is different elsewhere.

In regards to vaccinations needed on the i693 form it can be confusing but I went on USCIs website to the section called find a civil surgeon put in my country and zip code and found a list of approved MDS.Called two that were listed on visa journey and compared their fees. I also asked what was needed. I was told tb, hep b, gonnhrea and sphyllis. Oh yeah MMR , tdap and flu shot. I live in the USA btw and is from Canada.

I have had a positive ppd ( Tb skin test) and my understanding is that it will always be positive Bc of a vaccine I was given while living in the Caribbean ( bcg) which some of you in tropical areas have had. It was to help immunize us from TB and therefore we must have a positive reaction to the skin test. It means we responded correctly. Unless we take tb drugs we will never have a neg skin test and we don't want one if we we vaccinated against tb right????

A cxr will suffice or a blood test. I was vaccinated for MMR as a kid so a titer will do. Hep b vaccine or titer to show immunity. A titer is a blood test to see if vaccines we got had a positive effect on out immune system. So a positive titer for MMR and Hep B will be sufficient.

The civil surgeon told me let my primary doctor do the gonnhrea test. I have my flu shot and I got my TDAP within 10 yrs. I think we all should be getting the same requirements more or less based on age and ( if u r pregnant or have chemotherapy)but don't stress call a USCIS MD and ask. It is free of charge. All the best to us. God bless

There is some info for other immigration processes mucking up the waters here. To clear up some confusion>>

A K-1 medical exam is not done by a civil surgeon, and they do not get an I-693. K-1 exams are done abroad by panel physicians and they use DS(Dept of State) forms. The K-1 medical uses a chest x-ray to check for TB. More info on exam by panel physicians > http://www.cdc.gov/immigrantrefugeehealth/exams/ti/panel/technical-instructions-panel-physicians.html

Yes, vaccinations are a requirement for AOS and not for the K-1 visa, BUT if you can get the required vaccinations(MMR, Tdap/Td, varicella(unless you had chickenpox), and flu(during flu season only)), before or at the K-1 medical and have them marked off on a properly filled out DS-3025, then you might be able to skip the civil surgeon and I-693 once in the US and applying for AOS. It will save you hassles and money. See this pinned topic in the AOS forum > http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/551080-immunizations-ds-3025-or-i-693/
