Travel Home after Green card with Maiden name on Passport

My wifes Lola passed in Philippines..I have booked her a ticket to go home for burial. The question is... will there be an issue that her Ticket is in Married last name and Passport is still in Maiden name? Anyone experienced this and have suggestions?

Most airlines require that the passport and ticket are in the same name, check with the airline, some have suggested carrying the marriage certificate but my own experience of this was refusal of travel.

The ticket needs to be in the name on her passport, not greencard name. The airlines go by the passport. Like your wife, my greencard is in my married name and my passport is still maiden name. Everytime we've traveled it's under the maiden name while bringing a marriage certificate to explain the greencard name for re-entry. My condolences to your wife.

It depends on the airline if they accept the passenger with different names on the passport, ticket and GC.. if ever the airline tells you it's okay just make sure to bring the certified copy of the marriage certifcate, approval notices and maybe take note of the name of the airline rep you talk to.. I was a CSA in an airline most of the cases like that has no problem Goin back to US but it really depends on the airline.. Goodluck!

I'm sorry to hear the passing of your wife's Lola. It must be rough for her being 8,000 miles away. I'm sure she feels helpless.

The ticket must be in the name that is in the passport. Normally when you use your passport name you just need to carry her GC and MC with the passport to have no problems on either end.

If the ticket name and passport name have substantial differences -- such as a change due to marriage or divorce -- I recommend that you have corrections made by the airline or a passport acceptance facility, whichever one applies. Depending on the circumstances, the airline may make the change without a fee, or issue a new ticket and charge you the fare difference. A corrected passport will cost you reissue fees, and the processing time could extend from two to six weeks.

Call the airlines to ascertain what your options are before you arrive at the airport.

I am sorry for your wife's loss. As she will have this issue until she changes her PI passport or becomes a USC, I will explain about international travel for anybody holding a non-US passport.

International travel is done with an official document issued by the country of citizenship. This document is the passport and the airline ticket or cruise ticket must be in the name of this official document. Also, for international travel the bearer of the passport must have the necessary visas to transit or enter all countries of intended travel. The GC does not enter into the picture until the non-USC wants to travel back to the US. That person needs some form of official document that allows them to enter the US--i.e. a valid visa, GC or AP. The airlines are required to verify that a person traveling to the US is eligible for entry. So they will ask for a valid visa or a GC. There may be an issue if the name on the passport and the GC do not match. That is where the Marriage Certificate comes in to play, to show that this is indeed the same person. This is one reason to use an airline familiar with this issue. Saving a little money is not worth the aggravation of being delayed or refused boarding the aircraft.

You can see about changing her passport while in the PI and then you will only have to change the name on the outbound flight. Doesn't she have to register her marriage in the PI anyway and jump thru a few more hoops? The tickets need to match the name on the passport unless the airlines will let her board with her current tickets--she will just use her GC or other ID with her married name to get thru the TSA. Check with the airlines and get it in writing or at least document who you talked to, when, and what they said.

Just my opinion, but if your wife's current and only passport, Philippines or USA, is in her maiden name her plane ticket(s) must also match her passport name! Been there and done that! Best of luck! For you, anyways, this shouldn't be a big deal. Don't hate the player, hate the game!

Very simply buy a ticket in the name that's in your passport, don't overthink it.

There is no problem to book your ticket in your maiden name if that is what the name in your current passport is under, these names must match.

My issue was on my first marriage many years ago I was flying from London to Spain and had my ticket in my married name, passport was in maiden name, at check in when questioned about this i produced my marriage certificate but was told that unfortunately the names must match and a marriage certificate wasn't proof that that was actually me (don't figure)

If you have a GC in your married name then make sure you have your marriage cert for re-entry into the USA.
