I got my biometrics letter today set for the 28th of July. Should I try a walk-in?

I posted a link a few pages past of a thread with people sharing their walk ins experiences. You should check it out.

If it's near you and you can get there with no problem, I'd try anyway.

I told that before. The thing is there should be always two aos topics, one from people adjusting from a k1 visa and another for people adjusting from other visas. But it ends being everyone, so that's why I linked this before

I know what you mean..and yes, it should've been specified as "K1" or 'whatever' AOS.

Nevertheless, some people go out of their way to update or add links to their posts and thanks to them, we know what to do. I love the fact that I got all my information without getting a lawyer or spend a lot of money to get what I need.

So.... thanks to everyone here for the input and experience!

BTW, everybody makes mistakes and let me tell ya I'm the Master of it! It might be very obvious to most of you, but I tend NOT to think about certain things that are fairly new (..and maybe I was just in the 'wrong' AOS thread) I'm adjusting from a K1 visa..hence, changed my last name. Didn't start the whole changing procedure yet (meaning, DL, passport, SSN still has my last name).

So, here I come to my biometrics app. with my ID with old name. I'm sure, some of you now think 'dugh'!!!!! Yeah...well, that's me. I wasn't even thinking about that!!

So, just fyi...bring some sort of proof if you changed anything at all ??

I was send to the manager who literally said: 'let me see if I can help you out here'. That was awesome! I kinda assumed they could fix my clumsiness, yet prepared to have to come back. A few min. later I was waiting in line for my fingerprints. ☺ so..Yay ?

I was just pointing out I linked the other thread before and even if it's meant for only k1 people, it ends up being a mixed group, everyone ends up there talking.

As for your biometrics, you could've taken your marriage certificate as proof of name change. To change your Ssn and dl, you'll probably need the ead, as they usually want another id with the new name.

Yeah got that. Either way, it's basically the same.

I know that the marriage certificate would've been enough for proof!!! But I was just NOT thinking about that! ?

..and when it comes to my ss card and DL, I'm not too worried about that right now. (btw. Marriage certificate is enough to change name).

So...you can just do a 'walk in' at any time after you get the biometrics letter?

Yeah, like p-ana said, you can try but it's not a guarantee. However, the threads on VJ about Alexandria VA seemed promising so I decided to give it a shot! There are plenty of posts here so just do your research and you can find out pretty quickly what your odds are.

Nov. 4th 2016 - Received Interview letter in the mail ( Day 36 )

Nov. 8th 2016 - Applied to change my name on SSN ( Day 40 )

Nov. 22nd 2016 - Verification from DHS for SSN cleared ( Day 54 )

Nov. 23rd 2016 - Applied for State ID at the BMV ( Day 55 )

Nov. 28th 2016 - Received SSC in the mail ( Day 60 )

Dec. 1st, 2016 - Greencard Approved on the Spot ( Day 160 )

Dec. 5th 2016 - Case Status for I-485 changed to "Approved" post dated Dec. 1st

Dec. 5th 2016 - Case Status for I-130 changed to " Approved" post dated Dec. 1st

Dec. 5th 2016 - Welcome letter and I-130 Approval letter in the mail , both post stamp Dec. 2nd

Dec. 6th 2016 - Case Status for I-485 updated to " Card was mailed to me"

Dec. 7th 2016 - Update on my Green Card, Text from MyUSPS " Card was Picked up", expected delivery date 12/10

Dec. 8th 2016 - Green Card in Hand
