Still no NOA1 for me. I called USCIS, they just said that my case was received and is under review, and they wouldn't bother sending another letter. Does this mean I'm already at the NOA1 point? What does the NOA1 letter actually say?

I know its too soon to even ask this question. however when my fiance comes from overseas, would he be able to work? If so when? Does he have to apply for a work permit ? or he needs to wait until we are married and gets his social security number?

thank you

I know there is another form you can fill out and submit to get permission to work, but from what I've read most people just wait until they get the green card approval. I know you can appeal to your congressman to speed up the work approval.

A work permit is called an EAD. You can apply for an EAD as soon as you enter BUT it will only be good until the 90 days from your arrival and since it takes 60-90 days to get the card it is pointless and you have to pay for it.

When you are married you'll have to apply for Adjustment of status (Your Green Card) when you apply for that you can apply for the EAD and AP (Advanced parole - card so you can leave and enter the country) when you apply for you AOS then the fee for the EAD + AP are waived.

So basically after you send AOS incl. EAD + AP it takes 60-90 days to get EAD + AP and then you can start working.

To you all. Remember to correct your timeslines so it says California since they are the only service center there does I-129F applications and that way Igor's list is correct and your estimates on your timeline will be more correct.

I expedited for severe financial loss. I am in the military stationed overseas and living with my fiancée. I got orders back to the states, and being her sole financial supporter if we don't move to the states together I will be paying bills for 2 individuals in different countries. Edited by tnonamaker

My personal opinion is that all active and reserve military personnel can cut my line. I understand the immense sacrifice it is put by our soldiers to serve. To me, no matter what is the circumstance I find the merit to get any government paperwork expedited. Thank you for your service, it is truly appreciated. Congrats and enjoy your journey back home with your fiancee...

:ot2: I will lose my mind if I continue obsessing with this damn wait. I find the wait is straining my relationship :( because we are both fed up with the distance. It is difficult to put my mind to do something else tho :bonk:

I am not sure why active military members don't have a special process for themselves. Military life and civilian life is much different. Military life pretty much can be constant moving from state to state or country to country. I can understand military service members being expedited. Even if it was not going to cause a hardship....You never know when your next move is coming.

question,

If I were to get an RFE, how long after submission of noa1 would I hear something from them that they need an RFE? I submitted my petition on May 23, 2016.

Thank you
