Hello,

I'm a U.S citizen, and my wife has a green card. We are having a baby in 8 months, and I would like to bring my wife's mother to U.S to care for the baby. How would I do that? Which for do I fill out? If my mother in law gets a tourist visa, how long can she stay in the US?

My wife is applying for her US citizenship, does it make a difference if my wife applies to bring her mother once she gets her citizenship?

Thanks as always,

hi

you cannot bring anyone on a tourist visa, another thing, taking care of your baby is considered work on a tourist visa

her mom will have to qualify on their own for a tourist visa, she will have to show strong ties to her country and convince the officer that she will return to her country

now does her mother want to move to the US to live for good? if so, then once your wife becomes a USC, she can file for her mom, the petition will take around a year

Thanks both

According to the USCIS page, my wife who's a green card holder can bring her mom

http://www.uscis.gov/family/family-us-citizens/parents/bringing-parents-live-united-states-permanent-residents

You obviously didn't read that carefully. It clearly says that you must be a citizen

hi

yes, she fills out the form that she can find on the US Embassy/consulate in India, pay the form and have an interview for the tourist visa and take all the evidence to the interview, they will say yes or no

or as you said, wait until your wife becomes a USC

Yes, you're right, sorry.

You said in your earlier reply "6 months. However if the reason of childcare is given she may have a difficult time obtaining the visa"

Let's say that the reason is strictly for vacation, how would I bring her to US?

let's say if you do say it's just for tourism, it must only be for that reason. because at this point if you lie and say it's for tourism and she is in reality coming to care for your child that is misrepresentation. Misrepresentation carries a ban. Just sayin'

Funny that

Anyway let us know how it goes.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
