I get on the interstate for about 6 miles every night. At night on a busy interstate I like to just stay in the right hand lane, since I don't have far to go to my exit. Guess I am getting old.

Anyway. Almost every night, a car in front of me will be doing 70, then slow down to 50 or so without hitting the brakes, and start weaving into the emergency lane and into the middle lane. When I finally pass them, there is the warm glow of a cell phone and the driver is reading their cell phone. It's insane how frequent this happens in just a 6 mile stretch of road.

They need to install a device on all cars that make cell phones inoperable.

I see this too all the time. It's crazy that they don't realize the danger they are putting themselves and others in.

I actually have an app for that!

It basically stops texts and other notifications coming through if the car goes over 20 miles an hour. I got it because I didn't want my phone to light up and distract me with irrelevant FB PMs.

There are several, depending on your type of phone and what exactly you want it to do. I use "TextArrest" but if you google "save driving apps" or "safe driving for teens" you will get others

Most newer cars have a safety feature built into the Nav system that will prevent a person from programming the Nav while the car is moving. It would be great to see something like that be mandatory in all cars for disabling a cell phone as well.

Yes, we have this on our car. It is a pain when my wife is driving and I as the passenger cannot make any nav changes. We use Waze instead which also disables nav searches, but also asks if you are a passenger and will let them make changes. As to the texting while driving, I see it all the time, makes me want to get away from them as quickly as possible. They can be worse on the road than drunk drivers.

That's really annoying. Why can't the passenger type in an address?

I agree that it is annoying, I'm guilty of attempting it as the driver and I was annoyed when I couldn't do it in our Edge. I imagine that it would be difficult for the Nav system to decypher whether or not it really was the passenger and not the driver attempting to enter the data. I guess you could use the same type of weight sensor in the passenger seat that detects when someone is sitting in a seat and requires the seatbelt to be engaged.

Agreed, if they can detect a passenger in the front seat to activate the seatbelt warning, why can't they also connect that to the nav system to allow the passenger to make inputs?

Texting and Driving for me is a definite no, no. I do however keep safe from other crazy drivers by assuming automatically that they are all out to kill me, and drive accordingly.

Our use the voice command feature on Toyotas. It actually works quite well. I have it on my 2015 Highlander. I very rarely have to curse it , like I did SIRI

Cause Bubba would put a weight in the seat, then sue Toyota for millions and win after having a wreck
