The events in Paris are terrible and sobering. They bring to mind some of the arguments forwarded by Bruce Bawer in his book, While Europe Slept. I am wondering if France is particularly vunerable to this type of attack because of the history of liberal immigration policies and the failure to 'encourage' immigrants to assimilate into the French cultue.

Did anyone read the book? Any thoughts about this?

I have read reviews . It is not a politically correct book that most on this site would read . I have argued that ISIS would just walk into Europe ... No resistance whatsoever ... Failure to assimilate into the French culture .....They are upset because the French have not assimilated into the Islamic culture .

I have read reviews . It is not a politically correct book that most on this site would read . I have argued that ISIS would just walk into Europe ... No resistance whatsoever ... The book certainly provoked its share of polarized critique and will not be embraced by academics, especial Liberal academics. But the gist of Bawer's argument, that the failure to assimilate immigrants in the name of multi-culturalism, will come back to bite Europe, seems to be a truth in the making.

I guess my worry is that France may have nutured growing ideologic pockets that are sympathetic to radical Islam. This could be problematic in the long term process of growing a prosperous and peaceful society. Radically divergent ideologies living in close proximity tend to not peacefully co-exist over the long term.

You find that on a lot of threads here. People, by character or by human nature, cannot keep on topic. I thought we would be discussing the appalling events in Paris yesterday, but not. We are attempting to solve all the worlds problems in the span of a single thread. Which cannot be done here.

It's pretty pointless, as far as discussion goes. As mentioned in the 'agenda reporting' comment by Tbonex, all the old grievances come to the fore, and before you know it we are again going round and round in ever decreasing circles.

People cant comprehend that it's a war of civilizations. Even though the Muslim "militants" themselves say it day and night, people don't want to believe what they are hearing. I have long said that 911 was the firing shot for WWIII. I am now more convinced of that than ever.

Letting the invaders to roam freely about Europe is suicide .Eight Islamist terrorists brought Paris to it's knees . 8,000 per day .... invaders are entering the EU. How many Islamic State sympathizers are in Europe so far ? .. There are no answers to that question .
