Any Sept 29 NOA1 that haven't receive approval yet? I was in the October forum thinking my NOA1 was Oct 1 but that's just when I got the notification. This is so frustrating how approvals for mid October have already taken place and I'm here like just playing the waiting game :/ congrats to everyone who is continuing a great process!

Hi! Me! haha my NOA1 date is 9/30... still waiting, i mean my fiance's date of birth was wrong on the NOA1 so they updated it on October 8. But since they actually updated it before I called them to notify that it was wrong I think I called on the 9th, I'm pretty sure they had to take the time to look it over again. And USCIS website says it was updated again on October 22. So everyone else is getting NOA2 or an RFE and I'm assuming I'll have to wait another 2 weeks because I screwed them all up! Any news on your case?

You have 1 year from approval to process your visa. Your petition will be extended automatically, in three month increments, till you have exhausted your year then you will have to reapply. You can send by email a request to extend but it's not necessary. If you have any questions about any part of the process you can use my website for the processing through Manila where I outline all the "gotchas" saving you time and the possibility of receiving a 221 (g). Link is in my signature below at the red twisting arrow.

Found another U.S. Embassy Manila guide here on VJ and they also say the same thing. I guess my question is, where is this information officially provided on the government sites? If they will allow the petition to be valid for a year, why not simply put an expiration of a year on it? I won't worry about sending a letter to request a renewal and we will get the interview and medical exam scheduled as soon as we can, but it may end up being up to a month after the expiration date on the petition. I just want to be sure I'm not making any mistakes and don't screw things up for us. Thanks for giving so much feedback and sharing your experience. It is especially helpful since you have been through the exact same process as I'm dealing with right now.

What dose it mean when NVC case says READY?

That should mean that your petition has been forwarded to the consulate in the country where the beneficiary lives.

It should be already there. For some embassies you can already schedule the interview, but most of them will send you a letter/e-mail once they process your case. So just be patient, you will hear from the embassy soon. If not, you can always contact them and ask.

Chuck explains it nicely. You can fill out everything and then save it and give her the information to access and have her double check your work and she is the one who must submit the DS-160 not you. That's the legal part of this. What you decided to do is up to you.

That was a good explanation Chuck on how to handle the DS-160.

Thank you. I've read your website at length. Lol. I did the DS-160 last night for my fiance complete with uploading the picture for her. She then went in and "signed" it after reviewing everything. I was pleasantly surprised to see that you can email the confirmation page so she emailed it to herself and to me so she can print it later. Now just waiting for the embassy to get our petition from NVC so we can pay the fee. :):D

For Manila, once you have your MNL# then you can pay and schedule your interview, complete the DS-160, take your medical at SLEC and got and complete the CFO whether your records have arrived at USEM. My point is, you don't have to wait. See my website for all the steps for USEM Philippines. I will walk you through step by step and answer all your questions including the DS-160 questions that I have seen here are answered. Link is in my signature below at the red twisting arrow. It's FREE and you will avoid all the "gotchas" and complete your interview in record time.

Really??? WOW!!! I thought we had to wait. Awesome! I'll let her know. :joy::dance::D

It is especially helpful since you have been through the exact same process as I'm dealing with right now.

It's been our experience for USEM that they extend your visa in increments of four months (sorry I had stated three months in an earlier post) automatically. The official word is from US Dept of State found here:

http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/immigrate/family/fiance-k-1.html#11

Though it states "A consular officer can extend the validity of the petition if it expires before visa processing is completed.." it is set up for USEM to extend it automatically till the expiration date therefore no "human" interaction to make this happen. This has been our experience.

You asked "If they will allow the petition to be valid for a year, why not simply put an expiration of a year on it?" I can't give you an "official" answer but is of my opinion that it's there so it gives the applicant a sense of urgency to complete their processing as to keep the "entire" processing for an Embassy moving forward and not getting bogged down because many waited till the last minute or went out of "turn" which would cause ebb and flow processing at a Embassy. Their trying to keep it flowing as much as they can. Just my guess. Others may know more definitively then I.

Thanks again, your advice is very helpful. I will sit tight then and not worry about sending a letter in the mail. I will send one with the forms I mail to my fiancee for her to have at the embassy when she goes for her interview in the event that they would ask for one, though it sounds like they will just extend it anyway. I know we aren't worried about going over a year. Planing to have her arrive in just over 6 months.

Why does every little step in this process feel eternal? U_U

Fiance submitted the DS-160 today and emailed me and himself the confirmation page. It's been like an hour and neither of us have received it. I thought it would be immediate. *sigh*

Anybody know how long it might take!

Analisa,

My fiance completed the DS-160 and emailed the confirmation page to himself and to me on Wednesday...neither of us has received it (it's Saturday now). I wonder if there is an issue with the system?? For those who haven't yet filled out the form--make sure you print AND save the page!!
