I have a friend who works in the VISA FRAUD dept in Virginia. They do use Facebook and can get access if they want to It doesn't matter if you have it private or not. I have also read on VJ that some consulates look at facebook. Do not think they don't have access if they want it.

I would be inclined to agree with this. Anything that is easy to find online can be checked. Facebook, LinkedIn and so on. If most Human Resources professionals in the US are snooping around online before they hire candidates, you can bet your bottom dollar that some USCIS agents are too. They are probably looking for things that contradict what is in your petition - for example if you appear to be dating someone else besides the petitioner.

Hi everyone!

I recently got engaged to my gf. Does the USCIS look at facebook to determine the validity of a relationship? Would it affect the k1 approval if we didn't update our fb status to engaged?

My fiancée is worried if she updates her status, her bosses from work (call center) would see it and it might affect her position/standing at work knowing she may be leaving soon. This might also pose a problem if our k1 doesn't get approved (since its not a guarantee) as she'd be staying at her company longer with her bosses already potential looking at her in a negative light.

Any experiences or thoughts on this?

Thanks!

I think with long distant relationships I would be more concerned if the reason my fiance does not want to post the update that she is engaged to me is for other reasons, ie "if she is seeing someone else on the side" and does not want that person to find out. I am not saying it is your situation, but being worried that she is engaged and her job may find out, does not sound a reason to be concerned if there is nothing embarrassing in her facebook page that anyone can see. Many people are engaged to foreigners and live in country, and unless she is posting she applied for a visa and is saying she will be moving soon, how would they know she is planning to leave?

Like many have said, don't be too worried about social media in terms of USCIS, if your relationship is legit and you can show it is, you have nothing to worry about.

Good luck!

Just wondering why her boss is on her personal Facebook page.

Has been mentioned that Consulates have looked t it.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

She can just dont put any relationship status at all. Leave it blank. FB doesn't force you to put a status. Problem solved.

Good luck!

Boiler,

She's friends on fb with a lot of her co-workers, including some of her bosses. I have some bosses as friends on fb as well. I don't think people normally ignore friend requests from their bosses even though they'd prefer they weren't fb friends.

USCIS does not try to validate whether or not a relationship is real. It has no bearing at all on the I-129F approval. If you meet the I-129F requirements, you are usually approved...simple as that.

The evidence of relationship is needed for the embassy interview. The CO usually has no desire to go digging for proof of relationship on facebook or any other online places. They can if they want to, but usually they don't care about it. Only if they believe your relationship is not real will they care to pursue it. If they want proof, they will ask you for it. Usually the CO will just ask to see some pictures of you two together, which is all they asked from my wife. Facebook wasn't even considered.

Relax, you will be fine.

Well, if your Facebook says you are married and you're filing or a K-1, you think USCIS will let that slide?

Som employers snoop on Facebook anf i wouldn't be surprised if a uscis employee working on your case decides to be a sherlock Holmes.

Just dont put anything on Facebook that will contradict your story period.

My fiancé and I used to do PDAs on Facebook but we stopped due to "rubbing it in some folks face" (not nice!) and we never put our relationship status on Facebook.

Don't worry about fb.My fiancee and i can't update our status to engaged because i live in a homophobic country where gay marriage isn't legal & we didn't want to draw any extra attention to our relationship so i doubt facebook carries any real weight.
