I'm kinda happy I don't have to deal with this name change stuff, less confusion for me but good luck to those who do. I had a GA license when I lived here after college, so I was thinking I could just get it renewed but I see that according to the DMV website, if your license has been expired for two years or more you have to retake the test. :/ guess I'll be retaking the test. Can't believe after driving for so so many years I'm like a teenager again having to take a driving test LOL

I'm even luckier than that. When you move to WA from B.C., Canada, it's a straight transfer ... no test!

On another note, I had just received my EAD a couple of days before our Green Card interview. The CIS officer with whom we interviewed told me not to go SSA to change my name until after I my Green Card came.

Even more fun than that, I went to SSA today to do the name change, Green Card in hand. The systems haven't aligned and SSA doesn't have my updated immigration status, so it will tkae four weeks to get my new SS card.

The inefficiencies in this system are mind-boggling.

Hello everyone, anyone on here arrive on k1 and received notice about interview yet? I'm just wondering if k1 people are receiving information about their interview or if people of other visas are.

Is there a timeframe where we should be notified about our interview/interview waiver? For example the EAD was 75 days then you could begin contacting USCIS ..I'm wondering if it's the same for this part of the process too.. Thanks!

Hi! I came on the K-1 and have received my interview notice, as have a few other people. In fact, a few have already gotten their green cards in hand.

However, there are a lot of people who have not yet heard anything, and even some with the interview waiver letters.

So in conclusion: there seems to be no pattern in how they go about this. Some people get lucky and have interviews, while others get waived and have to wait a lot longer for their green cards, unfortunately.

I believe that with K1 visas, the interview process is less strict as we have been thoroughly interviewed prior to receiving the K1 in the first place. Hence a lot of us get the waiver.

As for timeline with the interview scheduling, I think that may have more to do with how busy the office in your area is.

After doing everything in my power to get my EAD, the tier 2 officer told me today my card had been approved two days ago. I know I was very emotional and super agitated while talking to her, but I don't know why it felt like she wanted just to make me go away and lied to me, although I know that is not possible.

Anyways, let's hope it doesn't take 85 days more to actually get it so that I can go back to work. I couldn't care less about the interview as long as I can work while I wait.

Good luck to everyone.

Hi guys.

My status for I-485 hasn't changed since they got my RFE response. It still says "you will receive an update by June 9th". Anyway, I called the 1-800 number today and asked to speak to a tier 2. She said that as of June 8th my status is "ready to schedule an interview". But there is nothing online. Anyone else in the same situation or know if it's normal?

I was expecting a NPIW letter but maybe I'm lucky enough to get an interview. Who knows..

Anyway, congrats to all the approvals, looks like most of us have gotten our EAD's approved.

Thank you for sharing this with us! This is exactly what I wanted to know. I even started a topic with this thing.

So,I need to go to SSA office first then! I was wondering if I should go to DMV first.

Do you think I can go to SSA right away?its been 11days since my EAD was approved. The card was delivered on June 19th though. I heard I have to wait for 2weeks so that SSA can verify my EAD info. Please correct me if I am wrong ! Thank you!!!

hi, yes give at least 2 weeks before you go to SSA for name change, then wait for your SSN new card to arrive under your married name before going to DMV..they need to match with your name in your EAD..Good luck!

RFE too they said will receive a decission June 14 .

June 15 I called them and ask what happen why the date was gone they just said wait for 30 days and gave me a request no.

But then June 15 in the afternoon I received a notice of potential waiver letter dated "june 11,2015"

So i'm thinking maybe that's why they took off the date because they sent me the letter already .. just wait for a few days maybe that's what happened to you too

and USCIS and CEAC website was having technical difficulties,Updates and approvals lately are coming in the mail without an online update.

That's not what happened to me.

SSN card I received now still have restrictions even if I went there with EAD card to update my name .

.no problems with the restrictions as long as you have you have your EAD, what is important is the name should match with SSN and EAD..(that's what DMV wants when I went there to take written exam)..because some of K1's availed their SSN before they got married..lucky to those who have applied in their married name..less burden..

Hi guys! Just got back from my AOS interview :D

It went great! The Interviewing Officer was a really nice gentleman and he barely asked us any questions about our marriage.

First we verbally went over the obligatory questions in part 3 of the I-485.

After that he just asked us when and where we met, which led to a long discussion about Minneapolis and how great a city it is.

Basically aside from that he just went over my file which he had on hand and just told us that everything looked good, and that we should look for the official approval on the USCIS case status website later in the day, and expect the green card soon.

So, yay!

In conclusion:

Things we took with us to the interview:

EVERYTHING.

Things he asked to see:

NOTHING. Not one single thing.

If I may add my little bit. I went to DMV with just passport, I94 and NOAs. It wasn't a hassle. I did my written and driving test, passed and received my pemit. They told me the original will be delivered as soon as DHS does their checks. The permit I have is for a year. I had drivers licence before from my home country.

maybe you applied for it earlier when you arrived here in the U.S., and 60 days before your 1-94 expires, it's not the same case if you are applying for DL and the 90 days as K1 visa expired..If I only knew that before then I would have been the same as you, cause I have a valid drivers license from my home country too..I've been twice rejected at DMV - 1st my 1-94 did not qualify for the remaining 60 days period...and 2nd attempt was my SSN name didn't match with my EAD..SSN in maiden and EAD in married name..they told me to come back once I have fixed my name change for SSN..
