We met once for about 13 days before we filed. Then once while awaiting NOA2. & then not again until my then-fiancee had Visa in hand. Also, we only knew each other 4 months before filing. I proposed when she came, so she was my Fiance, even after such a short time.

By law you only have to meet once. Meeting multiple times might strengthen your application for embassy interview purposes, but for USCIS requirements you only need to meet once before filing.

Hi everybody.

I filed for the K1 visa back in June 2014. My fiance and I met online through a friend on July 21 2013. We were together 9 months before I met him in person. That was in may 2014 and I was there for a month. I'm sure there are more of you out there that only met once since that is the requirement and it does not state you have to visit multiple times. Can any of you share your experiences? Whether you were approved or denied when it came to the interview, I would like to know. Thank u!

I met my fiance now wife once and it was for 6 days, we did not have any problem with uscis & the Embassy too. you will be fine.

I would think that the majority of the people on this site only meet their Fiance one time before filing a K1

Yeah um that's pretty inaccurate. Why would you think that?

English-only outside the regional forums, please. If you must post something in a foreign language, it's courteous to provide an English translation so that everyone can know what's being said. Thanks.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

The K-1 has two requirements,

1. Be eligible to marry.

2. Having met face to face at least ONE time in the past two years.

I knew my wife, and just friends, then we decide it was more than friends, engaged June 12, 2012 sent K-1 visa on June 22, 2012.

but, went to see here 4 more times, before the interview, which I am sure helped. We documented it all. Had a great time.

I see no problem, with really good documentation and proof.

My gal and I only met once also and did not have any problems during the K1 visa interview and were approved without any problems or concerns. And, since she is from the Philippines the US Embassy in Manila looks very hard at documents and evidence submitted.

Best of luck!

Yeah um that's pretty inaccurate. Why would you think that?

Yeah um, because it happens quite a bit. It's much easier for multiple visits for partners living in Europe, than say for instance one who resides in East Asia.

People in embassy are so unfair when it comes to K1... some ppl meet once with their fiance and they get the visa with zero problems.. and then there some some people that live together for years and get rejected because a CO had a bad "bitchy" day and is "retarded"... just so unfair!

My fiancée Emilia and I met in October 2009 in Wrocław, Poland while I was doing “study abroad” after graduating High School in California. We started dating in the beginning of December 2009. In September of 2010, I went back to Poland to start a full time study program at the University of Arts in Poznań. I decided to study in Poland because I wanted to be close to Emilia. In October of 2012, Emilia decided to move to Poznań to live with me.
