Passed interview and civic tests yesterday (2/23/2015). The USCIS officer in SF application support center is so nice and professional. The whole process is very smooth. They will probably schedule my oath ceremony in late March. The civic and history questions are: #38, #7, #60, #29, #61 and #16. You really don't need to worry too much as long as you study the booklet.

During the interview, we went through almost every item I filled in my application. But it was a very quick review. I believe the process is to allow the USCIS officer to validate all the answers and information the applicant provided.

One thing I learnt from the interview is the requirement for selected service. This is slightly different from what I thought. I remember some posts say that if you are older than 26 when you obtain your green card, you don’t need to register for selected service. I don't think this is correct. It seems to me that the criteria is that whether you are older than 26 when you come to the US for the first time as a resident, not necessarily as a permanent resident. For my case, this doesn't matter ...

Cheers!

Congratulations.

Selective service:

The rules are actually pretty clear.

If you were not in the US between the ages of 18 and 26 you don't have to register.

If you were in the US between the ages of 18 and 26 as a lawful non-immigrant, you don't have to register.

If you are a female, you don't have to register.

Everyone else has to register.

The rules say that if you were a lawful non-immigrant, you don't have to register. I'm not sure if that's what you mean by "resident' versus "permanent resident".

If you came to the US when you were 19 on an F1 visa or if you came to the US when you were 23 on an H1B and then you got your green card when you were 27, you do not have to register. If however you lost your legal status during that time, then you would have to register.

Yes. I think you are correct. I think it is important to point out if a non-immigrant has failed to maintain his legal status (H1B/H4/L1/L2/J1/J2/F1/F2 ...) for more than 30 days before 26, then he is required to register.

Congratulations.

Congrats Deidre :) so happy for you!!! And its a great but weird feeling that this immigration process is over right? LOL :)

Yayyyyy!!! Today was my oath ceremony :) there were a total of 50 new USC's from 28 different countries.... And was only me from Australia :)

I've reddened my status :) thanks again for everyone's support and wise words, may speed be with everyone who havent yet completed this process :)... (Omg is this immigration stuff really over!? Lol) :)

N

Congrats :)

Today I passed the interview and took the oath in Newark, NJ - I am finally a US Citizen! My wife can't call me anymore a freaking immigrant haha :)

I ran into a problem though that I would like to share: I filed the N400 80 days before the third anniversary of my permanent residency as part of the early filing process. However apparently 3 full years must pass also from your wedding date. I happened to file the N400 on October 10 while I got married in October 11, 2011...the officer pre-approved me however he said that this is considered a potentially non-compliant application and therefore it needed the approval of another officer as well. I had to wait to unpleasant hours before being officially approved. In the end everything went well so that's the important thing.

Good to luck to everyone else!

TyandAllie, please don't be discouraged, many offices are way slower than the national average. I received my yellow letter sometimes in very late October to early November so I'm coming close to 4 months of waiting, but I'm at the Dallas field office and its one of the offices that will most likely take 7-10 months to complete the process... it's not you, it's the field office! I know the USCIS website says the Detroit field office is at the 5 months national average, but really, what does that mean lol They may very well be overwhelmed and they haven't updated the USCIS website.

Just gotta be patient. I know it can be hard seeing others who are in this thread and are already US citizens, while we haven't even gotten an interview date, but I personally just go about my life and when the time comes, it'll come! In the mean time, you have a 10 year green card and if you think about it, the only difference is you cant vote (and there is no big election until 2016) and you cant serve jury duty (which that can be a pain anyway lol)

No, they don't need to be notarized but be prepared to show the originals at the interview.
