Oh right, thanks for adding the point about the agency being self-funded! I agree 100% USCIS should be self-funded, it's not up to citizens to pay for immigrants to come to the US. I've always thought they might perhaps offer a "premium service" option where you pay double, and your case gets adjudicated quicker (as long as it goes to a special department that works solely on premium service and it doesn't affect the regular service, of course). That's just a suggestion.

I think it's amazing we can come to the US and be allowed to one day become full fledged citizens. In the mean time, as a green card holder, you have the same rights (save voting and jury duty). When I think that in Mexico, you have to be a Citizen to own certain water front properties...Now that's harsh :)

Moving to the US and (and making it here in the US) is not for the faint of heart! But it sure as heck is a fun and challenging ride. I love this country!

After calling several times and initially being blown off and then opening a case, and after making a subsequent online inquiry, I was finally put in line for an interview today. It only took 3 months and 10 days! I hope that they'll make up for the lost time by scheduling the interview soon...

After calling several times and initially being blown off and then opening a case, and after making a subsequent online inquiry, I was finally put in line for an interview today. It only took 3 months and 10 days! I hope that they'll make up for the lost time by scheduling the interview soon...

When I called the last time, the woman said that she was opening a case to escalate the matter in order to bring it to the attention of the Chicago field office. She gave me a confirmation number and said that I should get an appointment letter from the Chicago office in the next 15-30 days. I submitted an online inquiry from this page: https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/landing.doDown at the bottom, there's a place to submit an inquiry. There was clearly a snag somewhere, because I did my biometrics in October and still hadn't even been placed in line yet. I'm hoping that since there was a screwup, it won't take months to get an appointment.

Otherwise, it might be too late for many October filers, but I've been using an android app called "USCIS case status notifier." I'd saved my case file, and it allowed me to check on the status (every day!) with my phone. But I noticed today that it actually lets you know automatically when your status has changed, so I got a notification from the app a few minutes before the text message and email from USCIS.

oh i really hope you do get in 15 days! IA IA! And I also have this app :) But it doesnt notify me itself, i have to check it... oh well maybe i didnt get any notification yet so thats why...hmmph

Can anyone confirm if we need to prepare photocopies of our passports, driver's license etc.? My understanding is that during the interview the immigration officer only need to check our original passport pages, and we don't need to prepare photocopies. Is this correct?

Both in-laws passed their history/English tests yesterday; MIL is clear for the ceremony however FIL was marked "decision could not be made". Officer said just a technicality as supervisor was not available to sign off on something in his file. She said it should not delay his ceremony date, and that they will do their best to make their ceremonies on the same date. We'll see:)

Both in-laws passed their history/English tests yesterday; MIL is clear for the ceremony however FIL was marked "decision could not be made". Officer said just a technicality as supervisor was not available to sign off on something in his file. She said it should not delay his ceremony date, and that they will do their best to make their ceremonies on the same date. We'll see:)

Hi Everyone,

I just thought I would pass along the good news. My wife, Ann, had her naturalization interview yesterday and her application has been approved! We are just waiting now on a letter from USCIS with the place/date/time of the oath ceremony. Thanks to everyone for all of their advice and insights throughout this and all of the other seemingly interminable immigration processes over the years.

As soon as we have the date for the oath, we will update our information in this thread and forum. Cheers!

02/22/17... NOA2 for Mom received (Notice Date 02/15/17)

02/28/17... NOA2 for Dad received (Notice Date 02/17/17)

03/01/17... Status online shows application sent to NVC 

03/17/17... Received emails from NVC for next steps!

03/21/17... Went online to Choose an Agent

03/28/17... Received emails from NVC confirming Agent selection and to proceed with the next step (paying fees!)

04/05/17... Paid the $120 Immigrant Visa Application Processing Fee online today (Also eligible to pay the $325 Fee but will wait before doing so...)

April-August... Took a break from the process in order to move back from USVI to mainland USA.

08/07/17... Paid the IV Fees for both my parents ($325 each) today

08/23/17... Called NVC because payment still showing "In Process", was advised to email proof of payment to have them manually correct it

08/24/17... CEAC website shows "Paid" and can now have parents' DS-260 forms filled in.
