Ok so my interview is coming up soon, and I am starting to get nervous. Here's the thing that I am most nervous about...

We used a lawyer. Our lawyer assured us that she would provide us with everything we need. She took all of our civil documents (originals) and sent them to the NVC. She gave us all of our other material back, but did not give us copies of our civil documents. I've read as many reviews on the Montreal Consulate as I can, and everyone says that they go there with copies of everything to hand to them.

Is this going to be a big deal? I certainly don't have time now to get originals of everything again!!!

No, our lawyer said she gave us everything. I asked her about needing copies, and she said "why would they need copies when they have the originals?? They will photocopy them if they need to". Which sounds reasonable.. for anything but immigration! Should I be worried?

Your lawyer is covering for a rookie mistake. No lawyer should give away an original document without maintaining a copy. She also admitted another rookie mistake... not sending a copy to NVC along with the originals so you could get them back at the interview without drama. Frankly, you should have kept copies yourself.

Saying that, the worst case scenario, embassy will put the originals in the visa packet and you won't see them again. A better scenario, embassy will be gracious enough to make photocopies themselves, but I doubt it. If you'll have plenty of time between interview and POE, wait till after interview and if you don't get your originals back, obtain new ones then. Otherwise, get busy now.

I just got my interview date scheduled for October 27th.

I'm happy I got it scheduled at least, but the date they scheduled is so far away!

I hope I'll be able to change it through the embassy...

I wish many more of you will get your interview scheduled as well!!

Timeline

Agent Tessa just informed me that my interview is scheduled for October 31st. This date is really not what I wanted to hear. When we started this process, as we had married just the two of us, without a ceremony and reception, we had planned to have the ceremony and reception once I was in America. We decided to plan the "wedding" for 18 months after we filed our application. The ceremony is on Nov 7th, so an Oct 31st interview date means I will likely miss the wedding, or best case scenario arrive a couple of days before.

I really hope the packet arrives with the embassy soon so I can get an earlier interview. I'd even take 1 week earlier if it means I can get at least a week in the states before the ceremony. Very bittersweet news

This is a little early for some, but may come in handy later. You can check to see about how many flights will be arriving at around the same time as your flight. A day before your flight, you pick your airport and check how many ofther flights are arriving in the same time frame and terminal as yours. (You cannot do it too far in advance bc they list only like 12 hrs of flight.) This can give you a heads-ups of maybe if you will have a crazy, long wait in the CBP lines. The last time I returned to the US, two other flights arrived at the same time. I spent an eternity in that line. :(

You can check it early if your flight is the usual weekly one. Like the airline I prefer has the same flights scheduled for the same times each week. So, i can check it Thursday, to see if my husband's flight will be arriving along with tons of others.

And if you do not already know about this one, it is very helpful in ensuring you will pick a nice seat. :). Before seat guru, i picked a seat that was spacious, but the airline map did not say it did not recline bc it was in front of an exit row. Grrr. So the flight attendant told me to check-out

www.seatguru.com

for the next time I fly.

Maybe i am posting old news for some, but could help someone. :).

Safe travels to you all, (when the time comes). ?

I am still so angry at the NVC for giving me such a late interview date, they clearly give interview dates out of order from what i see :(, cant do nothing about it about yet, waiting for my case to arrive at the Embassy, how long does it take for the interview letter to arrive ? looks like my case is still at the NVC, they sent out cases on Mondays and Fridays? i'll try to contacted them once they received my package *sigh*, i really wanted to be with my husband before my Birthday and Halloween

Ha i feel ur pain. My husbands interview is on october 30th!! It's waay too far away. :( i just called the nvc & ask if i culd get an earlier date the lady said "NO" she sounded bitchy! just wait for ur case to be send out at the embassy & call and ask if u culd get an early date for interview.

Pick the closest seat to the front of the plane and be swift exiting and reaching the queue lines. That alone should save you a ton of time. For example, Economy Plus on United Airlines has a reasonable cost, very comfy compared to regular coach, and you only need to pay for the segment that ends at POE airport. If you choose it early and up front, you can exit with the last of the business class passengers.

Congratulations. You have been updates on spreadsheet.

Thank you! This probably makes no difference, but the spreadsheet says interview date 10/8, but it's actually 10/6 :)

Congratulations to everyone who got their interview dates! And good luck to everyone else! :)

IR1 took 520 days....
