Interesting development:

Appealed to the Supernintendo of the handgun dept. of VSP. Wrote back without even an explanation just stating it was 'appropriately denied'.

Obviously I was pretty pissed off. Emailed VSP professional standards dept. that same week and basically said it was a breach of my civil rights, as they were saying I was a legal definition that simply didn't exist. Got a voicemail from a Leiutenant who basically apologised and wasn't sure why this happened. He said the original Superintendent was going to write to me straight away basically saying re-send it. He hasn't done that in over a week (I assume can't be bothered).

Am re-sending it tomorrow and see what happens. A denial will ultimately be a lawsuit as I have excellent grounds.

Your status is CPR. Conditional PERMANENT RESIDENT. Of course you are correct but it's a PITA to fight city hall. On the other hand, here in PA I bought a gun as a temp work visa holder (but can't get a concealed carry permit until I either get a green card or complete a 20hr hunting course).

5/2/14 - Marriage to USC (Australian citizen on E-3 visa)

6/20/14 (Day 0): AOS package received at Chicago Lockbox
6/24/14 (Day 4): Text notification of receipt (I-130, I-131 and I-765 "Initial Review", I-485 "Accepted")
6/30/14 (Day 10): Received NOAs and biometrics notice for 7/24
7/7/14 (Day 17): Walk-in biometrics at Pittsburgh ASC
7/30/14 (Day 40): Email update: I-485 has moved to "Testing and Interview" stage

8/20/13 (Day 61): Text notification: I-131 and I-765 approved, "Card Production" status

8/28/14 (Day 69): Text notification: EAD/AP card mailed

8/29/14 (Day 70): EAD/AP card received

9/10/14 (Day 82): Text msg of case update - interview date notice mailed

My advice would be to do the hunting course and get the CHP. You never know when you'd need it.

They made out it was a secret down here in NC that a hunting licence is a way around it. Not really a secret as Federal law has a whole list of non citizen AND non-immigrants who can get a permit, one of those categories being anyone who has a hunting licence or permit issued by any state. Boom. Gun permit right there.

How does the 2nd amendment apply to you if you are not a citizen? I don't mean to sound like an idiot but I am NOT fond of guns so I don't know all of the ins and outs of the rules. But I am very curious. You are making it sound like you have a right that is being denied but you are a conditional resident. What ARE the rules in the U.S. about non-citizens' gun rights?

I don't understand the reason you're applying for a permit in a state you don't even live in? Is it because you can't get one in your own state?

Also, I know that for me, more than once before removing conditions I had things denied because my green card was going to expire too soon from the date of whatever it was, loan, mortgage etc.

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.
