my fiance and i met last May 2014. We spent 20 days with each other (L) .. now we are preparing for k1 visa and i want to know if there will be problem if he didnt meet my family. before we met, we decided that we want to spend each other alone. we want to know more each other and we want to make sure that our decision is our own choice. im not that close to my family and spent almost 5 years working in saudi arabia. i only went home to meet him after 1 and half years of chatting and skyping. so all of our pictures are being together only. no friends and no famiy.. we got engaged last dec 25, when he surprisingly sent me the the engagement ring via USPS in saudi. hope u can help me! thanks!!

My husband (then- fiancé) did not meet my big family as well. I lived in Jakarta for job commitment and my big family lived in small city in different island. But I did tell my family about my then-fiancé and our plan to get married in the US. The consular officer never asked about that during interview and I was approved. But I am not sure about how a consular officer will look at this based on the Philippines cultures and customs.

You do not need any documentation to file the I-129F and get to initial approval other than proof you have met in the last two years. So pictures together and more importantly your copies of your boarding passes that show you were in the Philippines at the same time is the only thing required. So the question then is how do you prove to the CO that you have a real relationship? This is where the meet the parents question comes up... There is another challenge you may face as well.. If you will be less than 24 and leaving from the Philippines at the time you get your visa then you'll need your parents to sign off on an 'advice' notice to get a CFO and if your over 24 then you still have to get a CFO and proving to the CFO office that this is a real relationship may be more challenging that to the CO during your interview. I think depending on where your home is in the Philippines compared to where you are in SA that you may want to consider doing your interview in SA and filing with the consulate there. Seems the process might be easier than Manilla.. But I digress. Consider this from the point of view of a CO who is required to suspect that this is a fraud application. 'You have only a limited vacation from SA. You'd not seen your family in 1.5+ years, you presumable send money back to your family showing you care, and yet you don't introduce your future husband to them.... " To the CO they could think, ahhhh she wanted to hide this from her family, why? Because it's not real? Because she's just using this guy to get a green card. It probably won't come up in the interview but you should be prepared if it does and perhaps front load the application with some documentation of communication between your finance and your family via SKYPE or perhaps some documentation of discussion between the two of you about how happy your family is for you. But I'd submit that your bigger decision falls around what embassy you will use. SA seems like a better choice as the CFO think can make leaving from the Philippines more challenging and doing the medical in Manilla and so forth. Congrats to both of you and best of luck.

me and my fiancee are both 28 yrs old. im here in the Philippines for good. Im looking for temporary job right now so that at least i can help in money matters when it comes to processing our papers. We both agreed about the family thing same also with his family. the reason is we want to focus on getting to know each other. no pressures and we want to make sure that we really love each other not only in chat and skyping but in person. We made sure that we really are compatible before letting our family knows about us. Now that he in US and im at home here in the Phil, we both started to open it up to our family.

As mentioned above, meeting the family is not a requirement in the I-129f petition application. It's rarely asked in the interview at US embassy in Manila as well. The CO can possibly ask of course, but this is nothing major to be worried about, as long as you have sufficient proof that you both are in a genuine and loving ongoing relationship. If asked, just be truthful about it.

Just a gentle reminder though, if you intend to drop by Manila before your flight to US (or have your medical and interview done there), you will need to attend the CFO seminar, wherein they will require a Letter of Advice (for 21-25 years old) or consent (for 18-21). If over 25 years old, you won't be asked for this at CFO.

You will not be required to attend the CFO if you plan to have you interview done in KSA and fly directly to US.

there is no requirement on the I-129F petition or the K-1 visa application for this.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

 Just read your response prior to mine above. From filing the petition to embassy interview, it will still take some time, so maybe there will be another chance for him to meet your family before you finally leave for US.

But then again, you need not worry about him not meeting your family prior to filing for your I-129f. Check out the VJ guides for more tips: http://www.visajourney.com/content/guides

My family does not approve of my fiancé but her Father does. She is the only child from her father's first marriage and her mother passed away when she was very young. Her husband passed away 4 years ago and my wife almost 3 years ago leaving 2 kids behind in each family respectively.

Every situation is different. To me, I am marrying my fiancé and not my family and I am the one filing I-134 . Approval from the families could be irrelevant in some cases.

My fiance met my family and relatives, however I did not meet his... What did we do?? When his parents visited him, we went on Skype and talked for 20 minutes or so, had pictures of that conversation. This pictures may work as proof too. I hope I helped you not to worry anymore.

For starters, I hope you met 2013, not 2014....not enough time has elapsed. Anyway, my fiance hadn't met both of my parents, just my mom and everything was okay. The only time any question was brought up about my or his family was at his Interview in Moscow. They simply asked how each family felt towards our relationship. We answered that they supported us with all their hearts. Much cofidence and success on your journey.

What do you mean by that comment?

There is no requirement for "elapsed time"... Did I misunderstand?

You must also have met with your fiancé(e) in person within the last two years prior beginning the K-1 Visa petition process (filing the I-129F). But I guess he means he met her in person, not that they just met as strangers. The 2014 throws me off, that's all.

Strangers could have just met in person somewhere, somehow in May 2014 and then meet the requirement to have met in person at least once for filing the I-129F petition.
