Somewhat of a personal matter.... women and menstrual cycles

Lots of stress, geographical change - moving to a whole another side of the planet!, different food, losing weight, it all can affect the woman's cycle. Mine was never affected by moving to the US, but that's only because I'm on birth control pills and they make the cycle very very regulated.

I would definately consider going to the doctor though, just to be on the safer side. Especially since you have insurance....honey, thats what thats for! Getting advise from a doctor will help put your mind at ease, even if it is just stress related. Sometimes not knowing what the problem is just adds more stress which will affect your cycle even more!

I aint cool enough for a signature.....

Stress and upheaval play havoc on our hormones...and so disrupt cycles! Mine was never regular at all, and now that I'm here - it is! Go figure!!

I've also always had really really bad back pain, cramps and tiredness...and they've just gotten a little worse since I've been here :( . But I use Evening Primrose Oil and also try to get some exercise in, a walk or something like that. I find that really helps with the pain.

I also find if I stay away from salt during that week it REALLY helps - Which is hard cos I crave salty crisps, popcorn etc during that time!! Drink lots of water and/or green tea. It's the one time of the month that I really do look after the inside workings of my body.

I'm the USC and with all the ####### mine even went weird for awhile.

The one thing you may want to check out if you are irregular is your hormone levels. If your progesterone is out of wack it can affect your monthly cycle (and have adverse affects on getting pregnant and staying pregnant).

wow, didnt think I'd get that many replies, and sorta glad to read that I aint the only one suffering a bit extra of all that female stuff.

Thanks for the advice, I prob will wait of to go to Doc for perhaps another month or two and if it keeps up the irregularity go to the Docs.

And hey, rich, thanks for the input.... good for a guy to know what his woman is going through, I say!

And erm.... rebecca...you dont wanna know what happens in the UK LOL

Nah, they are pretty good at chasing you for the overall check ups etc. I suppose trouble over there is, they are so busy with general appointments they dont always have time to book you in for some 'prodding' LOL

And erm....ktun, maybe we ought to go on a mission and figure out what the hell is going on in this area.... I for one have heard the water is def different than overseas, harder... so maybe that is indeed one factor!

Thanks ladies (and gent) for the replies, much appreciated!

I just want to say that NEVER let a supposed medical professional tell you that the reason you can't conceive is 'just because you're fat'. While excess body fat does alter your hormone levels (it produces extra estrogen, or stores more estrogen or something like that...) it's not that simple. If that was true then every thin woman in the world who wanted them would have kids, and there wouldn't be any fat mothers!

Your hormones are extremely susceptible to stress and change and it can easily mess you up for a few months, but if you're thinking about trying to have kids you should get a thorough hormone check at the docs...

I think it's the stress because I'm like that too!

Since we started messing with immigration....... Dave always told me to ask the other women going through it about it but I felt I needed to.... But I've gotta tell you that reading all these posts makes me feel better that I'm not alone!

It's still gonna be awhile before we try to have a baby..... probably a year or a yeah and a half..... but I always worried that would mess that up too. Sure, I'll only try to have a baby when life goes back to normal and all but I was just afraid.

I already went to the doctor to check if everything was normal with me and check if I could have a baby and, after a few tests, she said that I shouldn't worry about it. But it's good to hear other experiences here.

Seems like I was the opposite of most of the women here! My hormones were already screwed up and when I moved here I had six months of perfectly normal pendulum-steady cycles! But now my body's gone back to it's whacked-out norm :(

I've always had irregular cycles( to the point of not having one for 4 years) I eventually found out that I had polycystic ovaries and consequently needed clomid to conceive both my boys.

Since my ex and I divorced I came off the pill and my cycles became irregular again, very heavy with bad cramps and awful PMS . Just recently I've started taking a herbal supplement called Agnus Castus(chastetree berry) which regulates cycles. It works !!

Does anyone know of any supplements that can help with hormone support? I guess I should start looking for a doctor, I dont really know how to find a good one in this area. I'd rather not go to my husband's doctor and people I've spoken to dont really seem to have a regular doctor, they change. This is totally alien to me, I saw the same doctor in England basically since I was born, or one of his partners at the same practice.

Believe me, after trying for over a year to conceive I've been going through everything in my mind. Am I ovulating at all? Is my progeserone level abnormal? Do I have PCOS/Endo? etc etc. I've also gained over 30lbs since coming here and my hypothyroidism is out of sync, I know that much. Basically my body is screwed up!!!

DouglasSheridan, I'm really glad you started this thread. I do find the water here has a strong chemical taste to it. I dont like it at all. In London I'd drink the tap water and enjoy it, here I have to force myself to drink it.

I'd find out from a doctor what your hormone levels are like before you go looking for supplements. Just so you don't screw it up more. And sometimes, it just takes awhile to conceive.. don't give up hope!

Ktun,

You could try taking your basal temperature. You can download a basic graph online. I did this when I was trying to get pregnant as i didn't think i was ovulating. The Ob/gyn here recommended I did this for 3 months. I also mentioned the herbal supplement above. But of course if you can try and see a doctor. It took my friend in England (whose 30) about a year and half to get pregnant. Every woman is different.

Yup, the same thing happened to me too, so it is probably the stress and stuff.

I missed a couple of periods at one point and we were beginning to wonder if Al's vasectomy had mysteriously reversed itself!!!!!!!! LOL

Ha Ha this is funny.

I had my tubes tied 15 years ago.

Every since I had my tubes done my cycle is every 24 days. Sucks bad. So I have my period for 6 days then off it for 18 days. Seems like I am always on it :crying: Anyways, since I have gotten here my back gets really sore when I am about to start, and my boobs are so sore. My PMS is scary. Poor Roger. I missed a period two months ago, and the first thing that ran thru my mind that I was prego  Paranoid arent I. I did home tests and even went to the doctor and got a test done and blood work. The day I got the test I started. The next month is was 40 days from having the last one. So mine are all messed up. I am 42 now so my doctor said it just might be my body getting ready to go thru the big menopause. Isnt is fun being a woman.
