I like to have my own bank account for privacy. I do give my share in all our house expenses but still I want my privacy when it comes to my allowance and spending money. I don't like to be monitored everytime I buy new shoes at walmart then get tired of them after a couple of days. :P:whistle:

We think the ideal solution is to have individual checking accounts (for personal use) and a joint checking account for household expenses etc. So that's what we have. Works fine for us :)

I have both, so I haven't answered your poll. I think it's important for both parties in a relationship to have some financial autonomy, but it's nice to have a joint account for the bills etc.

right now hubby has a bank account I don't but once I get my Driver's License we will set up a joint account... I think you can use a joint account as proof when you lift the conditions off the Green card

We have a joint account because that way EITHER of us has access to the money and I don't have to ask my husband for pocket money - he always gave it to me but it was frustrating to have to keep reminding him to take out some cash for me (he never uses cash, just his debit card)

We only have joint account. Reason(s): my husband is BAD BAD BAD with money, if he has his own account he will spend every penny that he makes and bounce lots of checks, so joint account is a way to avoid that problem. We discuss our budget together and we are just open on everything. If I want some personal stuff like some cute jeans in shopping mall, I will just ask hubby if that's OK and he usually just say "yes"... :P It's not always a nice nod if the opposite scenario happens though... :D

Both.

But your poll doesn't allow for that answer.

My name is on my husband's checking and savings account, so it is a joint account, although I dont have my own cards yet. I've always had individual accounts before, but I actually like it this way. I find it easier to manage with everything in one place and yes, I'm the one that manages the account generally.

It is ONE good piece of evidence to show as proof of a legitimate marriage, but not a mandatory one. You could prove you are finacially entangled in other ways.

Joint account. It just works best for us right now. Once he learns that money really does come out of the bank account when he uses that little debit card and can learn how to balance the checking account we do have....then we'll talk about him getting his own. I don't think I can handle trying to balance 2 checking accounts right now.

We have both. so could not vote in poll.

1 joint account which is the "main" account to pay bills, atm, etc...

The second is under Ana's name. that one we use as the "savings" account.

Whtever is that we have or will have, we take time to review finances at least monthly together.

The poll should have the options for both. A join account for the family expense, and an individual account for wife that way she can see her shopping expenses.
