My Fiancee was denied the K1 Visa today. Reason given was that she wore the Engagement ring on the wrong finger. Which I found ludicrous.

Any idea how to proceed from here? I know I can appeal this decision. But I would appreciate inputs from VJers.

That's not the reason.

Did she actually go to the interview?

Do you regularly send her money?

If so then you are being scammed.

Phil (Lockport, near Chicago) and Alla (Lobnya, near Moscow)

As of Dec 7, 2009, now Zero miles apart (literally)!

LOL. Not even close.

do do mean administrative processing? AP is not a denial

You are right. She wasn't really denied per se. But she was not given the visa. AP status

Ok then your post is very misleading and flat out wrong.. A denial is a denial, AP is further background checks. Many people in Lagos get AP, there is nothing you can do but wait. There is no way she was put in AP merely because her engagement ring was on the wrong finger, there must be other red flags. You can't appeal AP. I will tell the moderator to change the topic heading, you were not denied Edited by mimolicious

that doesn't make sense. that would mean that fiancee's who went to the interview without an engagement ring should be denied too because its worse than putting the ring on the wrong finger -.- I suggest you investigate further on the REAL reason if this is an actual denial.

I was going about what she told me. I just had her scan and email to me what documents she was given. Then I realized she was being investigated.

But the excuse she was given was the ring on the 4th finger. She was told Nigerians don't wear engagement rings on the 4th finger. She suspected we may be married.

Engagement rings are worn on the same finger as the wedding ring. There must be more to this

Bingo " She suspected we maybe married"

That will be a probable cause for a denial/ or Administrative processing.

If you are married and trying to file for K-1 Visa, then that is a fraud.

We are not married. But the VO did mention to her she believed we were married. It's absurd.

There is more than what she is saying. It is common that interviews of family, etc... occur at your embassy. You will find out more from people who have experienced the same. Search others within your embassy that had this occur. When they do the investigation, there is a long waiting period from what I read.

Maybe absurd but this is Lagos. I have a list of friends denied because they had traditional wedding or an engagement party and the CO suspected it was a wedding.

It doesn't matter whether you filed papers to a legal marriage or not. If they suspect or feel you are married and trying to jump the queue nothing you can do.

They will probably send out field agents to ask around her hood. Go to registry and do some digging.

Can I ask has she ever been petitioned before by anyone else?

Are you both Nigerians?

If so was a brides price paid?

If you paid by Embassy standards you are married. I had a friend show a picture of her drinking palm wine at their engagment party (traditional wedding really) and they were denied and told go get really married and come back.

All you can do is wait out the AP and hope for the best.

We are both Nigerians and no bride price yet. Thanks. We will wait. I just emailed the embassy myself.
