My title

Finally Filner falls on his sword!

The new title

San Diego mayor Bob Filner to resign over sex harassment claims – reports

Is this really a necessary and useful change of thread title? I understand changing inflammatory titles but really, have moderators got to change them for the sake of changing them? I am sure this was 'reported' but for what? Inaccuracy? Provocation? Baiting?

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

yes

it has become the rule as too many have been abusing literary license with posting topics.

Is that the 'official' view Charles, or just your view? How do you decide what is an appropriate thread title if someone doesn't post an article to 'borrow' the title from? If you can cope with the latter, surely you guys can cope with a sensible moderating policy on the former?

Also, can you only change a topic title if it's reported or do you have a license to change any you come across?

The Truth -

alas, many folk prior to yer return decided to write salacious titles for the former P mit R sub-forum, many times not having anything to do with the article quoted. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm no prude by any stretch, but there were some fellas that reported about that, a lot, and policy changed.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Yes, this is the official view. Charles is just following the guidelines established by administration and enacted by the moderation team, and yes, he - as well as any other moderator - has the license to change any title that appears inappropriate or baiting. If the title, with or without attached news article, appears to be 'baiting' or inciting a heated response and it is either reported or we come across it in our own use of Visa Journey, it can be changed to something less inflammatory, incendiary or provocative. We encourage people to use the actual title of a posted article if you are posting an article, and attach any 'editorial' type comments in the post and not the title of the thread.

We do believe this to be a 'sensible moderating policy'.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Much has been made about the moderation lacking consistency. So what happens when the moderation tries to act in a consistent manner?

People still complain! Some folks are just never satisfied. <_<

To shift this thread's focus a little, I'd like to bring up a frustration from a different standpoint. Members in the upper fora often post threads with titles of "Help!" or "I-129F" or something else truly general or generic, and the content of their messages turns out to be something very specific.

The generic titles can cause the right people (those with prompt, authoritative answers) to pass by the threads. This serves no one best. "Reporting" every such instance for title-editing would seem to be overkill, and the moderators have quite enough to do already.

I have a prospective solution, but I'd like to hear others' ideas first.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
