I haven't called them yet, but I believe you have to go through one of the menu options. You will only get a standard response out of them anyway unless you put in a service request. I don't see a service request doing any good or USCIS granting one at this point either since you are just past a 4 month wait. I know it is hard to take seeing CSC petitions being approved under 5 months, but 5 is still the "average processing time". They more than likely won't do anything for you if you are still within their processing time frame. I am in the same boat. My NOA1 is 4/17. I won't have any realistic expectation until 9/17 comes around. After that, I will put in a service request.

I've called but only to ask what the plan is to make up ground and never got anyone. At this point they will be hard pressed to improve their rate for the five month average if they don't do something soon. I think it is perfectly reasonable to ask at four months what the problem is and what the plan is to fix it.

Sure, it is reasonable to ask questions about their problems. What I was getting at is that they more than likely will not give special attention to a specific case that is under their processing time listed. Nothing from them indicates that they would. In fact, this is what the website states:

My Case Status

To find out the status of your case or to sign up to receive automatic case status updates, see the "My Case Status" link in the Customer Tools section to the right.

Call the National Customer Service Center toll-free number if:

-It has been more than 30 days and you have not received a receipt

-You have noticed an error on any documentation

-Your case is outside current processing times. To check current processing times, see the "Check Processing Times" link in the Customer Tools box to the right

http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.eb1d4c2a3e5b9ac89243c6a7543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=ddce0b89284a3210VgnVCM100000b92ca60aRCRD&vgnextchannel=ddce0b89284a3210VgnVCM100000b92ca60aRCRD

This would indicate to me that a service request on a case that is within normal processing time would not get much done. I guess it isn't written in stone, and one could get a representative willing to take exception, but my guess is that the typical response would be something along the lines of, "wait until after 5 months and call us back".

For the K-1:

Just checking something here...

The Vermont center received my petition on June 18, 2012. Does just the approval take about 5 months or does the entire process take 5 months from the time they receive the petition, approval, interview, visa, then here in the states?

I think I am guessing correctly when I am assuming it takes 5 months just to get the approval...

Thanks

The 5 month timeframe is an estimate provided by USCIS and that estimate is from the time the petition is received to the time of an adjudication decision on said petition.

Hi Everyone:

Indeed VSC is extremly slow right now. My calculations going off of the VJ folks who have posted, indicates that VSC is about 48 days behind the performance of CSC. My date keeps getting pushed back. But, alas, we hang in there as we feel we are on the home stretch having endured 128 days since NOA1. Good luck everyone Mike and Mila

I just went to the USCIS FB page and noticed they have it set that you can only see posts from them, not from others. Don't bother creating a new post expecting people to see the flood of them. Comments to their posts however, are view able by the public.

In everyone's life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.

Initially filed for K1 visa - Feb 23 2012

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we've abandoned this application

We married on Aug 24, 2013 in a small ceremony in MA

We'll be applying for a CR1 / IR1 visa as soon as we are able

Watch this space for updates!

Yeh, it seems unfair that CSC filers are being approved so fast even though their filing date is sometime after others. But I suppose CSC shows how fast things can happen when the system really works very well!! We have resigned ourselves to hearing from VSC by late October - approximately 5 months from our filing date. CSC filers who filed about the same time as we did, would be happily skipping down the aisle by then. (BIG sigh!!!!) I'll use the time to get my house/flat in order such as getting rid of stuff, closing accounts and saving money.

I wouldn't count on 5 months at this point either unless they speed back up or transfer cases to CSC. I hit 5 months a week ago and probably still have at least another month judging by the NOA1 dates that have been getting NOA2s this week. When I got my NOA1 dated 3/1 I conservatively figured my fiance would be here by Thanksgiving - 8 months later for the whole process should have covered it. Then VSC just ground to a halt. They've been on the end of January for at least 6 weeks now. It's ridiculous. Now I'm not even counting on Christmas. :(

I'm at 6 months as of today, so unless things change drastically I'd be prepping for a wait if I were you. Trust me, it feels better to think 6 months and feel great when it's only 5, then to think it's 5 months and watch the clock for the next month or more. Trust me on this one. blink.gif

I just had a thought... USCIS has a Facebook page here:

http://www.facebook.com/uscis

I wonder if we all started posting on there, asking why VSC is so back logged, if we would get any response? One person, they could ignore. But all of us? Just a thought....

Also, just saw an online ad that said, "Mitt gets things done." Oh, really? Let's put that to the test lol!!

You know what? I sent them a mail via facebook on tuesday, and got the same thought. I asked them if there is a problem at VSC for being late compared to california haha, I wasnt very sweet but i stayed polite! I want everybody here to do that!!!! PLEASE! Im sure they would see it.
