I have had no issues with scanning all of our documents using my flatbed scanner, and saving as a pdf file. I was then able to print any digitized document using my color laser printer. Clarity and legibility was of paramount importance. In some instances, the color laser printed copies looked very close to the originals.

Since many of these documents were hard to obtain, I felt that the accumulated mass of data needed to be stored and easily accessible for possible future use. I have saved digitized copies all of our forms and documents on CDs.

YMMV

Good luck on your immigration journey.

It's illegal to colour copy any government document It's not acceptable they would have preferred black and white

More misinformation. It is fine to copy any document used in this process, in color or otherwise, including passport, birth certificate or even a Naturalization Certificate. Where do you people get these strange ideas? headbonk.gif

A Warning to Green Card Holders About Voting

We scanned and printed out both of our passports, every pages in black and white and didn't have any problem.

Although, you should scan and print out with high DPI (high resolution) for the best clarity.

I know it sounds like a silly distinction but I'm wondering if anyone has every got RFE'd for anything because they scanned and printed, for example their passport, vs doing an actual photocopy. I realize they are totally the same, but a photocopy is much sharper usually but in black and while, while my printer and scanner, are good, but medium quality, but in color which makes the passport stamps stand out more. A couple forum searches here seem to indicate it inst a huge problem but they were older posts, so was wondering if this has been a issue with USCIS viewing them any differently lately.

Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

I understand your frustration. But just do as they ask. Be thankful it is just that and you have a way out. This could put your case behind by 60 days. We had a document signed but not filled out and we got an rfe. At the time it drove us nuts but now we have moved past that. Accept it and move it real fast. Dont waste any time. You will come to terms with it. Just be glad the reason for the rfe is an easy one. Hang in there. All the best.

There was no RFE. It's just a question.

You have the documnets scanned in on your computer--right? Did yu save them to a pdf or jpeg?If you did, you can take them down to your local FedEx/Kinkos or Office Deport or Staples and have them print them out in color on a laser printer for a few cents per page if the quality is of concern. I scanned evrything in and have color copies of all documents used or will use during this process. They are on a couple of different locations for backup. I can print out any document when I want it using my color laser or the one at work or at one of the local stores. Yes, a good scan and color laser and you cannot tell the original from the copy. As mentioned above, the only issue with copies is when a signature is required.

i scanned and printed everything. never had any issues. also, all my copies were monochrome. i think the issue is clarity. i used a good scanner, and a good printer. i think the scanner did 600dpi. which is technically low for photos, but for mostly textual matter it is very sharp.

I sent NO Photocopies.

ALL non originals were computer scaned and then printed. And very few were Black and White.

The certificates that have colors or lots of water mark type writing just did not look good as B/W. So most of mine were scanned and printed in color. No complaints from anybody about them.

I am yet to hear of an RFE due to a scanned copy. Believe me that is the least of uscis' problems, they look out for more important stuff

There's no chance being taken. A scan and print is exactly what a photocopy is. The difference here was the scanner and printer were in different locations. There's no way to tell the difference between a printed scan and a photocopy because there is no difference to tell. A color photocopy is still a photocopy is still a printed scan.

I sent ours photocopied in black and white some copies were not even sharp lookin and got approved in 4 months without RFE. No worries.

I just wanted to share that Staples wouldn't photocopy our passports for us. They said they were not allowed to photocopy passports. No big deal, we took them home and scanned/printed them. No RFE. I agree that there is no difference. Scan and print = photocopy.
