Completely ramdom, I know... but I am very curious as to how other people do it. For me is a first time. I am madly in love with my boyfriend (soon to be husband) who lives in another country. I never thought I would be the one to do a long distance relationship. NEVER in my wildest dreams I thought I could... but true love takes us to different places, and makes us do things we thought we never could.

It is, without a doubt, the hardest thing I have ever had to do, but we are soooooo worth it. We have our ups and our downs, but most importantly we are always there for each other. I just wonder, how other people do it? how do you deal with the distance? Just curious...

I haven't been able to visit my fiance since last July. We are on a second round of filing as first round was denied due to paperwork issue. We are on video cam nightly. We eat dinner together (with my son), read books together and discuss them, and same with movies. We talk about religion, historical events, and play games. He helps my son with his homework, and when I go to do work on the house, I get his opinion on colors, styles, and other things. We are so prepared already that we've got stuff for the interview, and stuff for when we file for AOS. Everything's planned for the wedding, but the date =p We have a June vacation (the 3 of us) planned for Toronto. It's almost like being in person, ... but still.. :( do miss him terribly!

Near-daily Skype and email are godsends, plus knowing that it's a temporary separation gets you through this time. We talk about the most mundane things like restaurants we want to try out when he's back in PDX, movies/TV shows watched, or me sending photos showing off a recipe success.

since this is my second round of a visa journey (first one two years just to get the noa 2 in the end visa not issued)

i have i believe the right to state im an expert on waiting.....

skype daily......text daily.......keep busy with things so that i dont stop and think to hard about anything.....

the one thing i learned the hard way was never give up......if both parties are determined and want the relationship to grow you have to keep hope alive.....once one of you gives up the relationship will end........(i was not the one that gave up)

We also have our Skype on 24/7 (unless our connection drops , then we start all over again). When we are not at home, we iMessage, FaceTalk or just talk through Viber. There is always an email waiting for us each morning, so we can read it on the way to work... It helps a lot but it also makes me sad seeing him on the screen, unable to touch or hug :( but I can't imagine if we didn't have it all, so thank god for the internet and the technology! :) We've seen each other last February but it already feels like like a year! We decided not to travel anymore as we need to save some money, so until I have a visa in hand, we won't see each other (unless we won't hear anything by the end of May, then he visits me)... so yeah, it's doable only if you love and feel that this is worth waiting for! :) I feel like the distance makes us stronger every day! If we go through this, there's no such thing that would separate us in the future!

I so wish my husbands country had reliable network to Skype and cam for 10 minutes. Commute is too dangerous to take out phone and text and talk to me. So much of our conversations lately has been texting and email. But as stated its temporary and WE in this journey are building the strongest relationships ever.

If only immigration could just put a bug in us and watch us and witness what we all go through and suffer the separation pains. Maybe than they would be less quick to judge our intentions. Off-Topic2.gif LOL

OMG it is really hard!! You are not the only one and we are all here to help each other! ( I take the opportunity to thank didopage for her precious help!!!)

I feel the same way... it is so hard to see him through the screen... it is so hard to say goodbye... we dont want to do that anymore. Last time we saw each other was January, and it feels like an eternity as well. I know is doable, we have been doing it for over a year now, but oh so hard. so so hard. and yes, distance does make us stronger, and makes us appreciate what we have more and not take each other for granted.
