So im not able to get into my fbook I read some people say that the government snoops for info my husbands interview is may 2nd could this be the government checking. I got in my husbands fine

They do at times check Facebook, and have even been known to ask for the password, but that would have nothing to do with you being unable to get into your Facebook. You may have been hacked, but not by the government.

the government can only access your Facebook if it's set to public view. or if you had it visible to friends of friends and they friended your friend, or if they send a friend request and you add them. Our government has enough problems putting murders, terrorists, and other criminals behind bars (gathering and accessing the information to do this is a challenge enough for them. It would be illegal to access someone's account at will. In terms of social media, they will have as much information as you want them too. So if there is anything someone wouldn't want them to see, it's good to keep profiles to friends view only. Or if you really want to be invisible set your connection parameters to only friends can search for your profile. You'll effectively become invisible on Facebook.

Penguin Ie is correct that they could ask to see it. I've never heard of them asking for a password however, but merely to view the page. And from what I've seen it's rare. Social Media is not the most reliable source for them as it's easily fabricated and can be highly inaccurate.

In the examples you mentioned about them asking for the FB password.....when did they ask? At the interview?

Yes, I heard of it on here a couple of times. I remember one was because in the limited view on FB, the couple said they were "married" when they were going for a K1. I think the other was an AOS interview from Tourist visa with little bonafide evidence.

I have never read of them asking for a Facebook password. The only thing I have heard of is a Consular Officer having the petitioner or beneficiary's Facebook open at the interview. And to do this, the petitioner or beneficiary must have had their profile easily searchable to all registered users. I actually don't recall hearing of them even asking to do it at the interview either. there's typically a window and it's not like the petitioner can go through the window and type in their information. Unless you have some huge red flags. Or you have made your profile easily accessible, I don't think you'll be hearing much about Facebook at your interview. I'd imagine it's consulate specific too. They'll probably go as deep as they think they need too. But you can control almost every aspect of the information that's available to them now. They've greatly enhanced the privacy features within the past few months.

yup. I read a couple too. Still doesn't seem to common though. And again best thing is to know your consulate. If you're consulate is notoriously difficult then be prepared for anything. I'm not surprised that Pakistan would be difficult.

Absolutely, it is unusual and if they ask for it, they probably have serious doubts about your relationship already.

There was a report a few months ago of someone being asked for their facebook password at a consular interview for a CR1, it was in Turkey.

I know that the process of immigration exposes all facets of information about both the beneficiary and the petitioner but does the government actually hack in people's facebook accts just to get information? For anyone who has heard of this happening were there any other extenuating circumstances.

Since the above information and links by penguin were directly related to my husband and myself i wanted to let you know One of the main reasons we were asked to show the facebook account was because we used that as part of our proof, our chats etc as well as having over a thousand wedding pics from friends and family and he wanted to see... which wasn't a big deal to us..

The CO told us our case was fine and because of name checks thats where we sit ... he said he will get his visa when the name checks are completed and pakistan is known for long name checks and AP

As for the facebook information.. ive read many places and can't find the searches now but the co was able to find out the other person was talking to other men, women, flirting etc so somehow yes they CAN get into your accounts but they will probably only do this when there is way more than serious doubt. If they have a doubt they will just ask but if something truly isn't right and seriously sometimes even us as untrained CO here can tell something is out of place they CAN and WILL get into accounts. Sometimes even having that be the reason for denial is they had proof that the beneficiary and/or the petitioner was not genuine

They are the ppl giving you the visa so you can be with your spouse/fiance
