Consulate Review: Jamaica
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : December 17, 2012
Embassy Review : We arrived at the Embassy around 9am for a 930am appointment and was allowed in fairly quickly. There was a small line at the entrance, but got assisted right away. My fiance continued on to the check-in area as I settled down in the courtyard (near the snack bar and seats) for what I imagined was going to be a 3-5 hour wait. I chatted with the security guard and another lady who was also waiting on her fiance to finish his interview. She told me that she paid an agency to complete her application and sent in all her photos and relationship items to this agency. Her fiance came out with a blue sheet that indicated that he needed proof of ongoing relationship -- thanks to VJ I knew what to have in hand at the interview. Also because of VJ, I told her to go make the window appointment right away for a day they can return since I knew she was going to be in Jamaica for a couple more weeks. ANYWAY --Surprisingly after about 1.5 hours, who do I see exiting the doors? It was my fiance!! Approved! Here are most of the questions that he was asked.

The CO asked him to write my first and last name on two pieces of paper. She then asked:
1) Where does your fiancee work?
2) What kind of work does she do?
3) How many children does she have?
4) What are the kids names?
5) Where does she live?
6) Has she been married before? How many times?
7) What's her phone #?
8) How often does she visit you?

He answered all of the questions without hesitation and with comfort and confidence. The last question about how often I visit probably sealed it (maybe), because I travel quite often to see him (at least monthly - sometimes twice per month). The CO did not ask to see ANY photos or other proof of ongoing relationship evidence. [I was a bit hurt because I took pride in putting together a very beautiful photo album-lol]. I\'m also surprised because I didn\'t send in any photos with my K1 application, but did mail in a bunch of photos (without any RFE) about two months after receiving my NOA1. I just took a chance and hoped that USCIS would receive and match up the photos with the application. Anyway....we paid the DHL fee and left. Arrival time - 900am, we left at around 1120am.

POE Review: Dallas

Embassy Review : My fiance said the process was very smooth. The only issue was the long wait to be seen by an Immigration Officer. He was asked when the wedding will take place.
Harassment Level : Low

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
