Mine aren't the same. Name on my passport is my maiden name, and it still has years to run. My GC name is in my married name. I was told the name on the air ticket has to match the name on the passport. When I travel I am taking my marriage certificate as well as my passport and GC.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

She took my last name when we got married. Her passport is still in her maiden name (and Colombia doesn't change names for marriage). I went with the GC name because that's what she'll have to use to be able to show that she's eligible to enter the U.S. and it's acceptable as a "government issued ID" at TSA when we leave. Plus, she's going to update her passport while we're there to add a notation showing her married name (even though her name won't officially change there).

We'll carry a certified copy of our marriage certificate just in case we have to deal with any questions on the U.S. side..

I kept it simple. The plane ticket is the same name as on her passport ( maiden name). She uses the passport to leave the US, enter her home country and leave her home country. She showed both her passport and GC when entering the Us. Everything else was in the computer. When you think about it, her passport still has her original K1 visa, and my last name shown at the bottom. So her GC better have a different name than her passport. Mine ! ( these guys at immigration know the deal)

I thought about that but was afraid that they would deny boarding in Colombia because there would be nothing in her maiden name to show she would be admitted to the U.S. upon arrival. I think we'll be OK because any discrepancy here in the U.S. (when we leave) can be explained by the (U.S.) marriage certificate and she'll have IDs in both names and by the time we return, her passport will have the married name notation in it.

In any event, the tickets are already purchased. We'll deal with a name change if we have to...

I didn't know if the person traveling was male or female. :)

I would carry a copy of the marriage certificate just in case they do give you a hassle to show why your names is different.

If you can get an affidavit notarzied stating that both names regard to the same person that will be helpful as well.

I travelled in my GC name (passport was in maiden) as the ticket only needs to match government issued photo ID - which the GC is. I had no trouble with that. Not a problem for me now though because Australia will change your passport name for free if you do it within a year of marriage. You keep the original expiry date so it worked out great :D

Passport name

They're already bought in her married (GC) name. Since the travel is still 2 months away, I'll call the airline and see if it will be a problem. We'll go to the consulate here to add the married name annotation to her existing passport before we leave, if we have to. With all the docs we have supporting the change, I really don't see a problem though (since any problem would be on the U.S. end and all the docs are U.S. docs)
