it will be seized at any USA POE whether you are coming in or going out.
I think the OP's question was whether he could travel to another (than the one in which he works/lives) non-US country on the revoked passport--without necessarily transitting US in-between. Edited by Saddle Bronc

Just a small note here. Neither the ex nor the courts have to report his past due child support to the Federal agency that oversees Passports (too lazy to look up the name). The Division of Child Support in the state where the support is being collected can notify the agency of his arrears if it is over a certain amount and a hold will be automatically placed on the passport. This is another case of guilty unless you can prove you are innocent.

Best thing to do, suck it up and pay your child support.

ETA; if he experiences either of the following issues due to the revoked US passport:
  • denial of visa of the country to which he wishes to travel (USC's do need visas to visit some countries)
  • denial of entry when he lands in that country (assuming visa obtained before revoke, or no visa needed)

it serves him right.

Not true, a US passport can/will be revolked for past due/arrear childsupport.

My brother applied for a passport and was denied coz 5000 or more in support not paid I don't know if this is of any help just FYI.

Believe it or not the dollar thrust hold is $2500.00 in arrears for childsupport will get your passport revolked.

no such word as "revolked". Small point but the word is "revoked".

I think it's good. He shouldn't be allowed to travel around the world freely while the mother of his child and his child go without.

Passport would not be revoked without order from Judge, if thats the case then I m assuming Judge would have given your ample opportunities to pay for your child.

If you been dodgeing the child support then judge can order your passport revoked.

Actually that is NOT true. A judge has nothing to do with suspension or revoking a passport. The system of chid support enforcement is now linked with DOS, so a deliquent obgligor's passport can be suspended by CSEA (child supoort enforcement agency) without court order.

What IS true is that the obgligor would have received several notices of past due support and he/she either did not respond to the notices or made a concentrated effort to avoid collection of support as a garnishment...

Judges have nothing to do with it. State support services keep a list that the State Dept does not check until they get an application. Then they deny the application until the support issue is cleared up. Meantime, a currently valid passport can be used.

What IS done is that they can cancel the passport it if you bring it in for something like extra pages. They cover it with revocation stamps and give you a one-way travel document (similar to a visa) to let you get home and face the music.

SO the current passport is good. Just can't be renewed or modified until the support issue is cleared up.

Here is a pretty good link that covers criminal/child support passport revocations

http://travel.state.gov/passport/ppi/info/info_870.html

The HHS child support database and the Marshals Service WIN database are checked automatically for entitlement to a passport. Denial or revocation of a passport does not prevent the use of outstanding valid passports.

Not true, a US passport can/will be revolked for past due/arrear childsupport.

i don't get it.

Thank you to all that has responded to my question.. I do need to make something clear. My case for child support is for only arrearages only case and the arrear is only 3100.00. I am a U.S citizen already working in another country. My xwife told me that my pass port was revoked for back child support payment. When I was living in the U.S I was making payments and lost my Job. I already had good pass port and got a job over seas. I am now working over seas and the holidays are comeing soon and I want to travel to other counrty close to where I am living. I don't plan on going back to the U.S durning the holidays I don't have enought time. So my question again is can I travel without any problem. I am not sure what my x-wife said is true ifmy pass port is revoked r not. please help

Thank You All

I believe the currant limit is $2,500.00 to be in Arrears or a Passport can be revoked. If I read correctly, you need to show proof you have taken care of this matter.

Ok thank you , but Still want to know can I travel and noone has told me from the child suppot people that is revoked. I have never received any kind of letter. just what mt x tells me

It is Not Required you get a Letter, you know what you owe. THEY know what you owe. There showing your $600.00 over the limit and its a new month. Bring that balance in Arrears below $2,500.00 and show proof of Payments. Child Support is like Herpes with a Cure. It never goes away until the children reach adults. Then there is a cure. But, not in the mean time. That is an obligation that never goes away when the children are minors. Just my guess why your Passport is denied. I might be wrong

Thank you all for your help on my matter of travel. I think everyone is missing my question. I want to know if I am already out of the U.S.A and I am working in another country can I travel with a revoke passport for childsupport. I have never been told that my pass port was revoked by the support people, only my x-wife. From whay I have read they have to send me notices for payment, before they take action. Also this a arrearage case only and the child is over 30 years of age now. Her and I have been fighting all these years over this matter of support. She left state and never told me were to send to. I hope this clears up csome of the confuse messages I am getting.

Thank You Biker727us
