Because I'm apparently the only real adult here who has to deal with putting their parent into a nursing home/long term care facility?

Excuse me? Did you actually READ my post or are you just hoping to get an award for martyrdom? I, PERSONALLY, put my father in a nursing home. I PERSONALLY had to make the decision. Get off your fricken high horse, for fricks sake!

Pretending that liberals don't believe in personal responsibility is a straw man argument that Right Wingers love to overuse like dirty underwear. Liberals and most sane Americans believe in a country that takes care of its people in times of need. Whether its recovering from a hurricane or providing Medicare and Social Security to the elderly, or Food Stamps. While Right Wingers will like to point out abuses of welfare as a reason to eliminate such programs, the fact is these social programs have helped millions of people and most likely, a family member of everyone here at one time or another.

My sister gets over $500 a month from my father (who can afford it), plus whatever unemployment is paying her useless boyfriend who doesn't want to get a job. Plus whatever her useless boyfriend is making by selling drugs

A few years from now she will be still in the trailer, boyfriend will be in jail from selling drugs,a child will be sucking at her breast and she will be on welfare.Zero responsibility . Why should my hard earned money support this person who cannot lift a finger to survive in this world.

Florida currently has more concealed-carry permit holders than any other state, with 1,269,021 issued as of May 14, 2014

The liberal elite ... know that the people simply cannot be trusted; that they are incapable of just and fair self-government; that left to their own devices, their society will be racist, sexist, homophobic, and inequitable -- and the liberal elite know how to fix things. They are going to help us live the good and just life, even if they have to lie to us and force us to do it. And they detest those who stand in their way."

Have CPS take the child out of the home and place the child in a foster home, throw the boyfriend in jail, and give the woman a chance to gain custody of her child back by working towards becoming independent. For every example like this, there are countless examples of people who benefit from welfare. Some people are losers who'll never turn their life around, but when there's children involved, you don't just turn your back and let the child suffer because of inept parents.

Word.

I'd go even further than this. Investing in social programs is not just a selfless altruistic act of kindness to those less well off - which it is. It also is about vested self-interest. When you live in a country that invests in education, good public health policy and disease prevention, affordable housing and similar programs, life expectancy increases, the economic vitality of your well-educated workers increases, homelessness and accompanying street crime and substance abuse decrease and consequently public safety increases. The tax money we spend on these programs has a direct contribution to the quality of our own lives. We are all in this together.

You mean like what they do in Canada, Western Europe, Japan and most Developed Nations? Stand down, commie! This is the wild, wild, west, where you bury your own dead, and justice is found at the end of a barrel.

If your parents are in a nursing home can you help them by managing their accounts? I'd just make an 'accounting error' on behalf of your sister and forget to send her the 500 each month.

Lol. I apologize for my lack of profanity. Don't tell my dad though, I'm not even supposed to say that word, it's too close to the german "ficken" (one of a few languages he spoke years ago but one of the several he remembers). So yeah, I'm a super rebel :P

Thread has - rather belatedly (sorry, everyone - just signed in) - been moved from P&R to Off Topic as a more appropriate location for this discussion - in spite of a few posts that tried to make it political but didn't. :)

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I apologize. I did read your original posts and, yes, they didn't originally conform to my need to be a martyr. I am very frustrated with my mother right now which tends to overtake everything. She is not an easy person to live with, etc. etc.

To be fair, considering what you've said, it must not be easy at all for your sister, since she's the one dealing with the majority or your mom's needs. Which does provide you with less of the burden so you can pursue your daily life. I say cut her some slack.

My sister is super pissing me off. She's had to deal with the majority of my clingy, needy mother's needs since we moved her into a close nursing home. I agree that it's not really fair.
