A bikini is not full nudity, but people in bikinis have been removed. A fully clothed woman is not nudity, yet was removed. A woman's legs are not nudity, but was removed.

This is what is worrying to me -- the removals are (for the most part) focused on women's bodies, even when they are not nude, partially nude or provocatively posed. It's the old men's bodies = neutral bodies / women's bodies = sexed bodies problem. If a woman in a bikini as image content is squarely PG (not even PG-13), how is the adult-themed?

BTW, I just got an ad for Zoosk, an online dating site in the US. I've never seen one of these, even prior to crackdown.

My avatar was not even remotely close to part of the reason why the ads here are what they are. Seems like this website doesn't even know which fight it's fighting so it's cracking down on things not necessary. It angers users, and when that anger is voiced, threads are closed. Hardly the way to run anything.

Anyone getting the sense that this isn't the same Cap'n Ewok?

I'm the same person. Funny though.

this is a US website, moderated by people who live in the US.

Why do you think everyone is in the US? More than a 1/3rd of our visitors are not in the US. Our site is visible in those countries too. As we cater to an international audience we need to be aware that in many countries folks do not share the same view as many Americans do on this issue.

In short, the enforcement of this may have been a bit sudden and we are still working though how / what to moderate (there are many of us, mods included. The TOS is pretty clear as follows:

Post any mature or adult content including full nudity pornographic images, videos, Strategically covered nudity, Sheer or see-through clothing, Lewd or provocative poses, pornographic cartoons or anime (hentai/ecchi).

So a family photo with the mom in a bikini is ok. A lady posing in a suggestive way in a bikini is not. A photo of a runway model in sheer clothing with private parts visible is not ok. a lady lying on a bed with sheets covering "just enough" is not ok (very suggestive). I think these are all common sense, no?

All the rules above are in place to keep VJ on the up and up. Having content violating these guidelines can place the site in jeopardy -- I think that is in no ones interest.

In some parts of the world gay marriage is illegal and gays are persecuted or killed.

Do you suggest not talking about gay marriage immigration to the US because it might offend people planning to move to the US?

I am glad that a woman in a bikini is okay now, because focusing all this attention on covering women's bodies in normal activities is offensive to me.

I think you are being extreme on your first point. I should emphasize the bikini can still be bad if it is shown in a way to be suggestive, etc.. I really think it is common sense in the end.

My point is that this site uses general US standards and follows legal laws of the US. Why should it be different on this issue? It is not extreme, and I wish you would consider this more, on your own time.

A woman in full clothing can be shown in a way that is suggestive. Her clothes have little to do with it, and the focus on women only and women's clothing is disconcerting.

This applies to men's clothing and images as well. Social standards are different than laws.

You are correct, a photo can be suggestive in full clothing. Per the TOS it would still be against our policy "lewd or suggestive poses".
