Pulitzer-prize winner Vargas says he's an illegal immigrant

You would have to read one of Duncan's/fishdudes threads on here to understand that one. Try the FEMA thread ...it's like a new take on Abbot and Costello's "Who's on first".

I'm not trying to create confusion or comedy. This just happens to be one of my pet peeves. Under the law, a person within the US illegally is under civil not criminal law. Now that's not to say the he hasn't committed a crime, there is just no reference in the article to it.

I stand corrected. I just did a google on that after reading that post of yours and I'm wrong on this one.

Court rules: Illegal aliens not really 'illegal'

While unsanctioned crossing forbidden,

being in U.S. without authorization isn't

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

The act of illegally entering the country is a crime. Unfortunately, that virtually never gets detected.

How is he a criminal? The article doesn't indicate any criminal acts.

From the CNN article:

Using false documents and Social Security numbers to try to make it by. He even once gave the Secret Service an illegally obtained Social Security number so he could attend a White House dinner.

Sounds like a criminal to me!

Fraud will do it. I'm interested how this will play out. Somehow, I don't think they will prosecute him for the fraud. There will be some who will use this as a stage to call for amnesty.

ya, 'wrong documents' is fraud, is fraud in this case a criminal act?

I say yes, others might say no.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

I'm not sure what you are implying. Please enlighten me.

Your attitude is what supoportst he exploitation of humans for profit. Are you against minimum wage? OSHA? Child labor laws? FMLA? Social Security? Medicare? Illegal aliens generally receive none of those things.

Vargas should not be deported, I do not care about that. Employers should be taxed heavily for employing illegals.

You should stop supporting what amounts to slavery.

I read this article this morning on Huffpost.

This guy is guilty of document fraud. That's a felony. He's also in the country without authorization and a textbook example to show that "illegal immigrants do only jobs no American will do" is incorrect.

So I hope his "celebrity" status will not prevent the authorities from doing what the law requires. I hope he has been arrested already and will be charged with fraud. Once he has served his time behind bars and is being released from prison, he should be escorted to the airport and be deported with a lifetime bar attached. The legislator should show that indeed all people are equal under the law.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

Wait. Let me get this straight. Some think it is legal to be an illegal.rofl.gif

No one said anything like that.

What attitude? You've just pulled a bunch of random things out of your #### here. I never said any of it.

Deport him after arresting him and then ban him for life.

He probably will be for claiming to be a US citizen.

This is true but generally people don't get sent to jail for crimes comittted as minors, especially when they have no knowledge of the crime. That's why people like this should be granted some sort of amnesty. You live in a country nearly your entire life, it is your home.

Whether the guy is a criminal obviously depends on what he has done in his adult life. I expect he will have some difficulty questions to answer and his story shouldn't be taken at face value.

Gary if you pull that string on your back any more, it will break (if it hasn't already)
