Its expensive for all of us. For the Dominican Rep.

After the petition is approved and your fiancee gets her Interview Letter, you will be sent a packet containing a letter for a her Medical Exam Appointment. Cost of Medical Exam & Vaccinations -> $180 + Vaccinations (up to $330)

Third Fee is for K1 Visa and its paid in Two (2) parts. You pay Banco Popular $140 + $15 + taxes before the interview. Then you pay $220 + taxes at the Embassy in the day of interview.

Fourth Fee is to be paid to DOMEX courier service (after receiving visa approval). Cost $9.50-$12.

Note: This is an expensive process. You will spend even more money when you do Adjustment of Status after marriage. ($1,070)

Many couples will choose to do CR1 visa (marriage visa) because its just as fast the K1 process and its almost $1,000 cheaper.

K1 Visa Process -> 12/09-06/10 Married -> 09/10/10 AOS Process -> 09/10-12/10 Removal of Conditions-> 09/12-07/13

U.S. Naturalization -> 7/8/20

It only seems like alot of money until your beloved is by your side. Once she's there, and you're married / planning your life together.... then the money doesn't feel like it matters at all. If you need to cut back expenses a little it's really not that big of a deal. Just plan a budget and stick to it. A few months living off of ramen noodles and chicken nuggets is definitly worth it, but for most of us it's not that dire (other wise we wouldn't have qualified to sponser our fiances / fiancees over)

My fiancee and I were had our petition approved and documents sent to the Buenos Aires consulate. I paid the initial fee to file the petition with USCIS. Is there another fee to pay again for applying for the visa itself?

It appears like I have to pay another $400 USD for her interview.

Anyone with experience with this?

Yes, typically there is a fee associated with the interview itself, then there are also fees associated with the medical examination. In some circumstances, you will pay for a medical exam and if immunizations are required, you will have to pay for those as well. Your best bet to gain clarity around the fees that may be associated in conjunction with the interview and requirements leading up to the interview, I would google the U.S Embassy in Buenos Aires that your fiance will have the interview at, go to their web site and see if you can down load the instructions for the K-1 visa petition/application. My fiance lives in Turkey, we pulled down the instructions for him and it outlined for us all the documents he would need to provide prior to interview along with all fees that need to be paid up to and including the interview. Hope this helps.

ugh...just seems like the US government is trying to take advantage. I knew about the 1000USD when she gets back here. But not this. Sometimes I wonder if I should just go there. I can go there with 200USD plus marriage license, so much easier.

Thanks all for your help!

Thats fine if you want to live there, but if she comes here, married or not, the visa fee will apply. And just to let you know and brighten your day more...the fees are but a very small down payment on all the other costs. In fact, I do not even see them as anything at all.

It's impossible to really predict every single expense of this process, and some big ones pop up here and there (I didn't consider the price of sending documents FedEx to my fiancee) but like others have said, they will also need food (!) and shoes (!) when they get here, and that will be expensive, but then they will be here!

Gary makes a good point, your monthly costs overall will certainly go up, but that is just part of being a couple. The main impact on most couples is if your spouse is not able to find a good job quickly or is in school or you have a baby right away. If you are happy together, in the end it really doesn't matter. :thumbs:

The USCIS is one of a few government agencies that are suppose to pay for themselves. The fees have been increasing dramatically over the past few years and just recently the state department has increased visa fees everywhere. In Ukraine the fee use to be $100 but it is at least $300 and possibly more. I haven't checked lately. :crying:

But the bottom line is that if you are going through this process, you had better be prepared for some pretty high costs. VJ does a great job assisting in that overall savings as many people end up using attorneys for processing and their fees vary widely.

So, save your money and prepare for each step. Hopefully when you have finished, it will be well worth the cost and effort. :thumbs:

Well, now I know what I'll be asking for for birthdays and christmas..... "Mom, can I have some money for Ice's AOS?"

I just started the K-1 process, but I know so far I'm spending...

$340 for petition Already done!

$50 for translating documents (even tho he speaks perfect english he says he can't translate birth certificate terms) -__-" Already done!

$66 for the medical exam (not including vaccinations....we don't know the cost for that if he needs them yet)

$150 for him to fly to the capital to get the police certificate because they want him to go in person (why?!)

$350 for the actual visa

$1300 for the plane ticket

$45 for the marriage certificate

+ more probably....nice to look forward to all of that...

Currently.... they have issued Ice the incorrect GC and we have tried 4 times to fix it. First time they had us send it to the incorrect address. Second time they said we used an expired form, which was the form they gave us. Third time was "oh sorry we lost the last page, can you send it again?." Fourth time is the gov is shut down. Will this ever be corrected in time for Ice to get the permanent GC? Stay tuned to find out. T_T
