My fiancee and I were had our petition approved and documents sent to the Buenos Aires consulate. I paid the initial fee to file the petition with USCIS. Is there another fee to pay again for applying for the visa itself?

It appears like I have to pay another $400 USD for her interview.

Anyone with experience with this?

Yes..you have to pay more. My fiancee paid $350 dollars in Egypt for his interview. Once your fiancee gets her visa and comes to US you need to come up with more than $1000 dollars more to change her status here in US. Goodluck to both of you...we have no luck since my fiancee visa was put on pending consular officer's review. I hope we get an AP (Administrative Processing) then they can extend it. My application expires next month in June so AP is our last hope for now. God Bless

My fiance received the same letter. I emailed the consulate but haven't gotten a reply yet, it also states to pay the medical and visa fee but does not explain what the additional $400usd is for. Very confusing.

400 is for the visa fee, plus a medical fee to be paid at the doctor's office, plus plane tickets, plus 1000 for AOS, PLUS 590 FOR ROC, plus 690 for Citizenship. This process is expensive as hell.

ugh...just seems like the US government is trying to take advantage. I knew about the 1000USD when she gets back here. But not this. Sometimes I wonder if I should just go there. I can go there with 200USD plus marriage license, so much easier.

Thanks all for your help!

The CO that performs the interview and people that does the paperwork and background checks has to make a living to, this is where all the fees are going, I understand the process is expensive but the person that does the job has to be rewarded don't you think.

Take your car in for a new transmission and it will cost about the same. All things considered, your fiancee is a bargain.

i guess my frustration on the fees is more related to the fact that just years ago i costed a fraction of this to do this process. I know at minimum AOS was tons cheaper. The cost of living has increased but not 100-200%. When I get charged that much more, then it feels like a rip. I'm not saying its not worth it, but I dont make 6 figures a year, I dont even make more than 50k, and I live in Miami which is easily one of the most expensive locales in the country, its just rough to make it through these kind of numbers.

But to be clear I know its worth it. And she knows I feel that way too.

Depending on the time of approval, traveling here and work permit, it is possible that you "make" about 5 grand out of the tax deduction for the year. You are considered married the entire year even if you marry the last day of the year.

Jokes apart, yes they use to charge a lot less, but it had not been adjusted for a very long time.
