anyone thought of just moving to their loved ones country?

Definitely have thought of moving there; but there's that problem of money. Moving there would mean finding a job for the present time and somehow having money saved up for retirement in 20 years. I just cant see it happening.

But if I win the lottery..... I'm on the next plane out of here. :D

Timeline

I've thought it about, but only as a last resort. I've been to Vietnam enough times to know why many people try so desperately to leave. They love the country and the people, but they hate the poverty, and they hate the corrupt oppressive government.

It's also difficult to find work there. Most Americans living there teach English since it's one of the few areas where there is a high demand for foreigners. Vietnamese people want to learn English from native speakers, and they'll pay more to do so.

I've thought about living there after retirement, but it would be complicated. Vietnam is one of the few countries where SSA will NOT send your retirement benefit checks. They might send your check to the US consulate for you to pick up, but you need to convince the US government that there's a compelling interest for the United States in doing so.

I did think about it. The only problem was that I have a 10 year old daughter from my first marriage in US that is dependent on me. In fact, I promised to my fiancee that if there is a problem with K1 I will stay in Russia permanently. In Russia for example all you need to do is get married to your fiancee. You get permanent residentship automatically, including permit to work.

We have decided that when I retire in 8 yrs we will move to her country atleast part time. I would move there now but I do not think I could make the money I make here in Cambodia. Do not get me wrong I love my country but I hate my government.

Just putting it out there. I sometimes feel so sad being away from the person that I love with all my heart(Sorry for sounding corny) that sometimes I feel maybe I should just go with him to his country or somewhere else. have any of you thought of that. Going insane here!!!! :ot:

I think this is an option that many of us did think about when considering the options. However, the US offers much better educational and economic opportunities that many other countries in the world. Therefore, the choice was clear. Patience is a sane person's best friend.

August 23, 2010 - I-129 F package sent via USPS priority mail with delivery confirmation.

August 30, 2010 - Per Department of Homeland Security (DHS) e-mail, petition received and routed to California Service Center for processing. Check cashed. I-797C Notice of Action by mail (NOA 1) - Received date 08/25/2010. Notice date 08/27/2010.

After 150 days of imposed anxious patience...

January 24, 2011 - Per USCIS website, petition approved and notice mailed.

January 31, 2011 - Approval receipt notice (NOA 2) received by mail. Called NVC, given Santo Domingo case number, and informed that petition was sent same day to consulate.

Called Visa Specialist at the Department of State every day for a case update. Informed of interview date on February, 16 2011. Informed that packet was mailed to fiance on February, 15 2011.

February 21, 2011 - Fiance has not yet received packet. Called 1-877-804-5402 (Visa Information Center of the United States Embassy) to request a duplicate packet in person pick-up at the US consulate in Santo Domingo. Packet can be picked-up by fiance on 02/28.

March 1, 2011 - Medical exam completed at Consultorios de Visa in Santo Domingo.

March 9, 2011 at 6 AM - Interview, approved!

March 18, 2011 - POE together. JFK and O'Hare airports. Legal wedding: May 16, 2011.

Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.

Last year I felt EXACTLY how you feel right now. Exactly! Please know that there is an end to this madness and you will be with your loved one in the future. This process is tough and I remember being so sad and also so angry sometimes that we just couldn't be together in the USA!

Last week my husband received his Visa :)

Hang in there.

Yes, of course, because he is my life, but Turkey is a very hard country. I did live with him and his family for 6 weeks. They are wonderful. I will move there if his visa is not approved.

In fact, I promised to my fiancee that if there is a problem with K1 I will stay in Russia permanently. In Russia for example all you need to do is get married to your fiancee. You get permanent residentship automatically, including permit to work.

Still have apply with a ton of paperwork and certificates - criminal history and mental health among others - and still takes 6-12 months to get said permanent residency and work permit, though. And if you were in the country on another visa (i.e. valid work permit) at the time of marriage, you can't stay while your adjustment of status is pending unless you have another valid status for the duration of the wait.

We were seriously looking into it but it looked like the process would be equally tough either way so we figured we'd go back to the place we both love more than any place in the world and the place where we first met... of course, now that we're over a year and a half into the K-1 process (almost 3 years since he had to leave the U.S.) I can't say I never wish we had started the process in the opposite direction, although we would still eventually want to live here and not in Russia.

2010/02/09 - fiance returns passport with visa to embassy

2010/03/09 - embassy tells us we are in "administrative review"

2010/09/07 - fiance receives passport back with canceled visa and letter; our petition has been returned to USCIS

2010/11/08 - 2nd NOA 1 (I-129F ROUND 2)

I have thought about that many times, but It just wouldnt work right now. I have too many ties here my career. If its any comfort (i dont kno where u r in your journey) but after the grueling 5-6 month wait for the NOA2 is over, it will start to move a little faster. If u can maybe u should visit to take the edge off. Thats what I did.

We've considered this many times, especially with the great economic upturn in the past few years in Brasil. However, after many conversations we decided that the US is one of the best places to raise a family. We want lots of kids so that's a huge factor.

Good luck in your decision!

10/03/10 - TOUCH!

After numerous calls to USCIS, my two Texas Senators and a Congressman, the latter got an "expedite" put through (if you can call a month and a week after ONPT an expedite). Just never let up! Even though mine took way too long, there were people who were a month before me and waited longer because they just sat back and watched. "The squeaky wheel gets the grease!"

04/05/11 - Received NOA-2 hard copy.
