Don't put deposits down on weddings. Don't book airfare. Don't pay for anything that is non refundable. Just DON'T, until there is a visa in hand. People get denied, paperwork takes a long time or gets lost. Save some stress.

That is all.

Thank you but ... too late ! We already canceled one wedding. Is really hard ... who wants to get married with no huge arrangements? The problem is is impossible to setup everything in 90 days so we will do civil ceremony fast and a real big wedding later on .

I AGREE. Don't jump up and down when your NOA2 is Approved and make Expensive Plans just yet. The NOA2 means you qualify for a Interview. Thats where a decision is made. It's OK to plan. Plan on getting past the Interview FIRST. As the above says: VISA IN HAND.... Then go from there. There is no Rush after that really.

People who want to have a nice down payment on thier first house instead of shoot money down a rat hole for a one day party.

Dunno where YOU plan on getting married, but the place I do sure ain't a rat hole (sarcasm or not) and it sure as hell isn't expensive.

We took our chances with everything - planned to file well in advance, etc. - and did - and I am happy that we did.

We're having a lovely wedding this August, which we're grealty looking forward to.

Planning it together has helped keep us busy and our mind off the wait.. wouldn't have done it any other way.

Not planning anything big or anything fancy. Taking college courses while waiting, do work, talking daily. and finding out what it takes for a catholic wedding. I hear getting married in a catholic church is like pushing water uphill... it is not easy. The hardest part is the wait. the hard part in talking is making no plans subject to those which can be changed. But have an idea of the plan itself.

Having a nice wedding is hard. But these are things to look at when bringing a finace from another country. No matter how hard you try not to plan or get your opes up for a certain day. You know you will anyway.

K-1 Visa Timeline:

02/11/2011 - Engaged at her house by her Godmother.

02/18/2011 - Engagement party with relatives - propose in Visayan.

02/24/2011 - K-1 packet sent.

09/18/2011 - POE, Viva Las Vegas, Baby !!!!! Home to Phoenix.

12/10/2011 - Official Wedding

07/05/2012 - Princess Rose born.

07/07/2012 - AP/EAD received.

07/17/2012 - AOS passed. (Birthday for Mama Rayos)

Thats Confusing to me. It's March, almost April. If you K-1 you have 90 days. August is 4 Months from now. ? That would mean: Out of Status unless I read this wrong. I don't know.

I agree, totally. I did not buy his flight until we had his passport with visa in hand and I had checked, double checked, and triple checked that everything was spelled correctly!

It has been said SO many times to not make any wedding plans that is hard to believe that some people would still go ahead with their deposits and bookings... This process is extremely uncertain, why the additional stress?!

August 23, 2010 - I-129 F package sent via USPS priority mail with delivery confirmation.

August 30, 2010 - Per Department of Homeland Security (DHS) e-mail, petition received and routed to California Service Center for processing. Check cashed. I-797C Notice of Action by mail (NOA 1) - Received date 08/25/2010. Notice date 08/27/2010.

After 150 days of imposed anxious patience...

January 24, 2011 - Per USCIS website, petition approved and notice mailed.

January 31, 2011 - Approval receipt notice (NOA 2) received by mail. Called NVC, given Santo Domingo case number, and informed that petition was sent same day to consulate.

Called Visa Specialist at the Department of State every day for a case update. Informed of interview date on February, 16 2011. Informed that packet was mailed to fiance on February, 15 2011.

February 21, 2011 - Fiance has not yet received packet. Called 1-877-804-5402 (Visa Information Center of the United States Embassy) to request a duplicate packet in person pick-up at the US consulate in Santo Domingo. Packet can be picked-up by fiance on 02/28.

March 1, 2011 - Medical exam completed at Consultorios de Visa in Santo Domingo.

March 9, 2011 at 6 AM - Interview, approved!

March 18, 2011 - POE together. JFK and O'Hare airports. Legal wedding: May 16, 2011.

Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.

If you're not Catholic and want to marry in a Catholic church, it can be tough if the church is "old school". My mother had to take catechism classes for months before they'd let her marry my father there, and more when I was to be confirmed. I've heard things have changed a lot though, so maybe you should call around at the more modern parishes in your area. It might not be as tough as you think. :)
