Fox News Bans Veterans' Group Ad

As ads on energy/climate go, the new one from VoteVets, a progressive organization founded by veterans of the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, is a little harder hitting than most. The spot features commentary from retired Brigadier Gen. Steven Anderson, who was the chief of logistics for U.S. forces in Iraq under Gen. Petraeus, and who is now urging the Senate to pass a clean energy plan.

In the ad, Anderson tells viewers, "reaking our addiction [to foreign oil] must not only be a military priority, but America's mission, and why the Senate needs to pass a clean energy climate plan. It'll put Americans to work developing new energy technologies that'll save lives overseas, make us less dependent and more secure.... It's time for our senators to choose: Pass a clean energy climate plan that makes us more secure, or let America keep paying the price."

It's a powerful argument from a compelling figure, and VoteVets is reportedly spending a half-million dollars to run the minute-long ad on national cable networks.

But not Fox News. CNN and MSNBC began airing the commercial today, but the Republican network has rejected the ad without explanation.

If this sounds familiar, it's because it's happened before. In May, VoteVets put together a similar ad, which Fox News deemed "too confusing" for its audience.

It also seems to fit into a pattern. A few years ago, the Center for Constitutional Rights tried to buy an ad criticizing torture, but Fox News refused to air it. Bill O'Reilly soon after insisted the ad was "anti-American."

In 2005, Fox News also refused to accept an ad criticizing then-Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito. And in 2006, Fox News was one of several networks to reject an ad from the United Church of Christ that told viewers, "No matter who you are or where you are on life's journey, you're welcome here."

The rejected ads have something in common -- a progressive message that Fox News would prefer its viewers not be exposed to.

We should have begun ending our addiction to foreign oil in 1973 with the first oil crisis. In the 37 years since then, we would have been damn close to energy independent.

Yep. Carter actually worked towards that goal, which was later balked at by his Republican successors.

I really is a shame that we haven't progressed much on this in 37 years. Big Oil has too much influence and deep pockets. I'm happy to the Chevy Volt launching this year. It's a start, as is the Prius and other hybrids. To really make an impact, the technology has to get cheaper so it becomes affordable to the mainstream buyers.

Weird. They call Fox a Republican network, but don't call CNN and MSNBC a Democrat network.

Must have been an oversight.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. What's weirder is that your reply is absent of its usual condemnation towards real or perceived censorship. Self censorship?

Fox doesn't call itself a Republican network. They make no such claim. They also aren't alone in rejecting ads that don't comport with their pov. CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN and MSNBC all rejected an ad against building the mosque near Ground Zero. Fox doesn't run it either, although some of their commentators have shown it on their shows.

Networks have leanings; the leftist ones should be more honest about theirs coz they're fooling fewer and fewer folks.

So long as petroleum is abundantly and cheaply available compared to your other fancy-shamncy but expensive solution, petrol will rule the world. It’s simple economy of supply-demand-utility, stupid.

What other news network is commandeered by a Republican strategist?

Roger Ailes is the real head of the GOP.

The leftist rancor over one conservative leaning news outlet is pitiful. It's easy to tell who doesn't actually watch Fox, but only reads about it. it has enough MORers and liberalz on staff to disappoint me on ocassion. I don't think Fox is as conservative as it once was. However, lefties should be worried; Fox is wiping your silly liberal nets off the map.

It's a tabloid propaganda machine for which Murdoch is a master at. He handpicked a Republican strategist to commandeer the programming for that very reason. There have been enough former insiders of the news network who have stated so.

With their standards in reporting, it's no wonder there are so many deluded retardlicans who vote counter to their own interests.
