A Plea to Long Time, Level-Headed Members Who Still Post Here

This sounds wise, si man. The "thicker skin" is a necessity. What I have found to be frustrating about OT is that, often, when posters (I, others) have attempted to inject a valid point of discussion into a thread of promise, or provide additional fodder for reflection, the "insultants" seem to prefer to continue their throw-flaming unabated, and they apparently ignore the attempt to focus on intelligent discussion. Many intelligent, literate, fertile-minded posters frequent OT, and (to me) it's a shame to see so many of them slide into the ditch of call-naming and personal insult rather than defend their position through debate and reason, si man. Also, OT seems to be a place where newcomers are not welcomed, because they're not a part of the established "in" clique, no man.

People move on from VJ, that is a proven fact. I have not personally seen evidence of a departure to the upper threads, only VJ departures. Either way, OT is what it is. Some choose to participate and some don't....

A certain Junior Woodchuck mod roams the forum trolling with obnoxious/unhelpful comments. I am certain the departures from VJ are related to this uncaring attitude.

You very lightly mention that people move on from VJ, but fail to address that the reason many seasoned vets have moved on because this place has become a 'cesspool'. Their concerns are not addressed. Ewok just lets them go, allowing the bullies to proliferate, and even appointing one a junior woodchuck mod. Just to shrug one's shoulders over the emigration from this site, to me, is evidence that you don't actually care.

I would love to see that day. OT is even more of a cesspool than when I joined over three years ago. Now it's like wandering into a room of 13 year old boys, all participating in various iterations of "Yr dum" "no u r". The only way to improve the calibre of general talk on VJ would be, I'm afraid, to administer a battery of intelligence, personality and douchebaggery tests to weed out the undesirables.

Perhaps the tone of the posts merely reflects the posters' ability to show restraint, tolerance and class, all three of which are sorely lacking in general in OT. Site Discussion is starting to become the antidote to OT.

This is nothing new - from mods or anyone else. Historically, complaints about how it is around here (OT or otherwise) are ALWAYS met with the same 'like it or leave it' comments, so nothing new there. Only thing that seems to change about it is who is saying it.
