HELLO,

SORRY :ot: I DONT KNOW IF THIS IS REALLY VISA RELATED, BUT IM JUST CURIOUS, WANTED TO SEE DIFFERENT IDEAS...

HOW ARE YOU GUYS PLANNING YOUR WEDDING BEING SO FAR FROM EACH OTHER? :innocent:

THANKS!!!!

Hi there,

I think many people are doing it their own unique ways.It is so cool though to talk to them and find out,cos we too get new ideas.Me and my fiance have not decided on anything firmly.Besides he is not employed now,so that is a major sour point. But we are right now thinking of doing a simple ceremony on a date we both seem to have decided on,and seems like everything will be over by that date,so I will have moved to the US by then.

And we are hesitant about actually booking any place or other services now, since it will be a gamble.Esp in our situation.

What are you guys doing?

We are not booking or planning anything. Once I'm there, we're going to have a small civil ceremony, and once all the paperwork is completed, AOS is through, GC there, we'll have our 'real' big wedding with family and friends in my hometown in Germany.

We both decided that this is just better for everybody, since it's so hard to make plans and you don't want to have your family and friends book flights when you can't tell them exactly when it might happen.

Plus, we want to plan and organize everything together, and this is hard from across the ocean.

We thought about doing the same thing as Travelbugs , but i have a question (sorry if it sounds silly,i don`t know): don`t we have to show pics from the wedding with parents and family etc.?

We just recently had a civil ceremony at a district judge. We originally had wanted to do soemthing more but weeks flew by so fast we just wanted to get it done and keep everything legal. We are still going top be a little late applying for AOS since we just completed vaccinations on 90th day. A soon as we visit the civil surgeon we will complete and send AOS.

We did have a traditional ceremony in Vietnam with lots of guests (about 350) so we are now just planning on having a big party here to celebrate with my family and friends (once the weather gets better).

Lots of ways you can go about it - its all up to you!

We have planned out what we want to do and what it'll be like with all our contacts ready to be called... once we know when it can happen it is just a matter of making the calls going down the list and get who's available. We had a wedding date in mind based on numerous reasons why we wanted it, but its unlikely we'll get that perfect date haha.

See profile for our K-1 Visa/AOS story from 2010-2011Apparently we love USCIS/NVC so much we left and are doing it again! This time giving IR-1 a whirl. Rock on immigrators.

We're having a small wedding in a city neither of live in or has lived in (and I don't have family there). I don't think him being in Brazil has changed anything - we could have easily gotten married almost anywhere in the continental US (as he's coming in the summer, when I work in the southwest, and we'll be moving to the midwest, where I go to school, about 6 weeks after he arrives), and we picked the city because it's one we both like. We're having a small wedding (just my family and maybe one or two friends), and it was just a matter of finding vendors, which we used etsy/offbeat bride/yelp/the knot/the interwebs in general extensively to locate vendors whose style we liked and prices we could afford. Once the visa's approved in just over two weeks, we'll lay out the nonrefundable/transferrable date deposits (we've already laid out the refundable ones) and blam, wedding just needs to be paid for! (We're buying my accessories in Brazil when I'm there for the visa, tee hee.)

My fiance and I are actually planning a large wedding back in Chicago. After we got engaged, I really did the research to estimate processing times and considered the time limit he had once at POE to decide the date we wanted to get married on. I know it was taking a risk, but the paperwork from the large wedding gave us the extra proof as well. We always figured that should things get done sooner than expected, we would just have a small ceremony and then continue with the celebration on our original wedding date. My fiance was all set for the small wedding, but me being the girl, I wanted something larger. :) I used to plan events for a career, so doing this was no big deal to me and fairly easy. We just did a ton of the work together when he would visit me and then the rest we relied on email and conversations for.

As I mentioned above, it is a big risk, but if you plan things out right I think it can be done correctly. Also, after all the work with the paperwork, I think the celebration is well deserved! :)

HOW ARE YOU GUYS PLANNING YOUR WEDDING BEING SO FAR FROM EACH OTHER? :innocent:

Honestly We're not planning a big wedding at all :crying: . Unfortunately times are hard and I'm pouring all my money into getting my fiance here. Chances are this is how its gunna work out.....city hall....judge marries us....that's it. I figured why waste a bunch of money on a fancy wedding when I can be saving for an awesome honey moon  (most likely Disney Land resort with park passes a few months after we get married) and also be saving for a new home   ...our own home.

:ot: My personal opinion is that people waste too much time, effort, and money on something that only happens once. Why not put that time, effort, and money toward a lift time of memories??? haha. well again personal opinion....and sorry bit of a rant. :ot2:

Just talk over your plans with your significant other. They'll understand you and probably throw in their own ideas. That's what we're somewhat doing. At least around my budget :crying: ....haha so far it looks like a BBQ/potluck reception.

We had a fairly normal wedding with all the trimmings we wanted. Since we were so far apart and the visa process was ongoing, we pushed the date out. The consequence was that we had lots of time to plan with a definite date, but then Nik had his visa for several months before he used it.

Just like everything else, there are tradeoffs to be considered for every decision.

Actually, ours sounds a lot like what musikgal06 was talking about

With all the expenses surrounding the visa and the AOS yet to come, we are thinking either a quick civil ceremony here or a quick trip to Vegas. Later we will do a big wedding with the families, but the timeing and expense is a bit much....plus, just not knowing how long things will take. Either way, the important thing is we will be together :D
