Kind of like the Confederate battle flag, the swastika, Che paraphernalia, or the Red Star. It depends on the time, place, and/or context of its use. I would venture to say that any use of those symbols as a political statement are inappropriate and offensive.

I always get a good laugh when I see someone wearing a Che shirt. I will ask "Hey, cool shirt where did you get it?" Normal response "The mall". Ok so you went to the mall and spend American dollars to buy a shirt with the image of the "Sworn enemy of capitalism....." :bonk:

But Chris? The hot beret with the flowy hair turns chicks on, duh.

What I love is when they don't even know his name... and I give them a brief summary of who Che Guevara was, what he stood for etc etc and they look at me like  "I don't care"

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

Am I a traitor? My family is from Cuba and fled in 1969. I'm not offended by the Commies.

I wanna say no with a yes-ie aftertaste.

There are people in this world who find the Stars and Stripes offensive, or the Union Jack, or the NY Yankees logo, or the Playboy bunny, or the McDonalds "M".

The point being - just about ANYBODY can decide that something is offensive to them.

Thankfully we live in a country with First Amendment rights that allow us to use that Confederate flag or that NY Yankees logo on our ballcap without needing everyone else's permission in advance. I venture to say that while you find politically unacceptable the usage of communist emblems, you'd be among the first to denounce the "politically correct" crowd that would restrain your speech and expression in directions that are comfortable to you.

You are correct...I'm an avid "free speecher". At times I might appear to be offended by something more for show to make a point. The point being that often people use these symbols as fashion statements while being totally ignorant of the history behind the symbols.

When I was a kid growing up in the 1960's there were always WWII movies on TV and kids in my elementary school class sometimes drew swastikas on their bookcovers because they thought it was cool or hip. They were just goofing and meant nothing by doing it. Our music teacher saw this and gave a big speech that took up our entire music period to explain why this was offensive. It was out of ignorance more than any political statement. Most of these kids had fathers that were WWII military vets and actually fought the Nazis.

Symbols in and of themselves mean nothing without context. Whenever I get riled about something like "Commies 4 Christ" I just wish some of the people that think this is hip would just go to the public library and read the history behind the "Hammer & Sickle". The history is no more pretty than the swastka.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

i remember kids drawing iron crosses ... peanuts was popular back then. ... curse you red baron ...

only a few drew swastikas and these were used in aircraft dogfighting scenes they drew.

What exactly is a personal attack? Has it been defined? And by who has it been defined by?

I thought he was banned for being a racist. And since he's not a member here anymore, is it ok to call him names or is it still against the TOS?

I'm guessing if he's not a member then you can bash the hell outta him. If you couldn't, they would have to take all the political threads down to be fair.

Personal Attack = A scissor kick to the gullet.

Well, most OT participants have been clamoring for less moderation and the site administration has acquiesced on the issue.

The upper forums on the other hand, are hands off, so to speak.

Carry on!!
