It seems like every time I go away from VJ for a while and come back I notice more and more the personal attacks that crop up in threads (especially in OT, but often in the upper forums too).

There's a whole slew of 'holier-than-thou' attitudes abounding out there. Is it just me or does it seem like common decency is being seen less and less on VJ in the last year or so? A thread will go from being about the original post to calling people out as stupid, liberal (or right wing) fanatic, dissing wives, husbands, mamas...I just don't get it people.

But not as much as tomorrow.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

I don't know that it was better or worse before. But in terms of outright butthole-edness (yeah, that's not a word...I don't care) it does seem worse lately.

I'm not really sure if there is a huge difference between lately and the past but there may be. I notice more people referring to off topic as the area where you aren't supposed to take anything seriously or don't need to be nice or something. It's called the playground and I know it mostly is, but that in my opinion is not the only point for off topic. I don't see it as a place where you are supposed to act like a butthole just because. You either are or aren't a butthole. I have noticed a lot of rudeness for a long time. Either it's people making fun of ugly people, fat people, left and right wing nuts, etc. Some people get away with it more for who knows what reason.

If it's offensive, I'll gladly remove it. No one has asked me to. :unsure: Though clearly others have no problem labeling democratic-leaning members as "Commies."
