Our time line for CR1 visa took only 5 months and 1 week or 156 days; from the filing the I-130 on the 03-12-2009 to Approval of NOA2 on the 05/13/2009, then Interview on the 08/18/2009 at Manila, Philippines. We had a daughter on the 11-12-2010 named AISHA JOY means HAPPY LIFE.a1_opt-1.jpga2_opt-1.jpga3_opt-1.jpg

Not a choice we could help you make really. That said, depending on what type of position you hold, you might do well by letting your employer you will be leaving, tentative on your receiving the visa (give notice in other words) - most employers appreciate that and may well offer to let you stay until the very last minute. (Depends on the position though.)

I quit my job well in advance of the visa so I could fly to USA to spend 90 day with my fiance on visa waiver programme thinking that our interview would be scheduled by time i got back. Unfortunately our petition was held in security checks for another 3 months so I had to stay with relatives (as I'd rented out my house). Not a fun time but I'm glad I had the 3 months with my fiance who is now my hubby! :star:

Unless you are independantly wealthy.. wait... in case of the chance it is not approved when expected...

We have to complete a form DS-2001 that says

I fully realize that no advance assurance can be given when or whether a visa will actually be issued to me. I also understand that I should NOT give up my job, dispose of property, or make any final travel arrangements until I have actually received an immigrant visa.

Wait. My wife mentioned this process to NO ONE except family and ONE very close and trusted friend until the visa was in her hand. She opened the envelope, check the visa, whipped out the cell phone and quit. It delayed her arrival by one month as she had to follow through on the commitments she had made, but I fully understand. If something had happened, if something was delayed...then what? No job? I mean she DID have to live until she left and though I was helping, she had a pretty good income and there was no reason to throw away the money (I am SURE they would have fired her if thay caught wind of this)

Just yesterday there was a post from someone that was "approved" at the interview and then tossed into AP for who knows how long. You can be put into AP at any time in this process. Better to wait until the visa is in hand.

Yup, you really should wait until you have the visa in hand, unless you can afford not to live without your paychecks before taking off for the USA.

I am currently in a job which I cannot stand, but nevertheless am going to stick with it till I have my Visa. Seeing as I won't be able to work for a while once I'm in the States, I want to earn as much as I can right now, while I can.

Definately wait till you have the visa so you can collect your EI benefits.
