Don't read much fiction these days.

But I really enjoyed Philippe Bourgois' (of In Search of Respect -- selling crack fame) new book Righteous Dopefiends. Gives a fascinating perspective on the "intentionally homeless." Yay, anthropology.

I just finished the Stieg Larsson's trilogy (Girl With the Dragon Tattoo...) - it was real good - mystery books.

Now, I'm reading A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry, and, so far, it's also captivating. The only thing is that it makes me hungry for Indian food :P

I've read "A Tree Grows In Brooklyn" by Betty Smith a couple of times. Really a great classic.

Right now I'm reading "'Tis" by Frank McCourt.

Y'know, I didn't realize how old he was until he died. Great books, 'tho.

We know how it ends- Jesus dies.

It's just so unfair, though, right? damn. I always hope for a happy ending every time I read it.

I love medieval mysteries, my favourite authors are Bernard Knight (his "Crowner John" series) and Paul Dogherty (his "Templar" series).

Do they ever have death/violence in them?

Sort of. Most of them are murder mysteries, but the murder occurs before the story starts- ie there is talk about it, rather than a graphic description of the violence.
