Obama had a right to comment but I wish he hadn't or had phrased things differently. I don't think the arrest had anything to do with race. The only one to bring up race and make derogatory remarks from all accounts was the professor. He seems like a publicity hound. I think political correctness and affirmative action has done more damage than help and has created a culture of victimhood in the US. Everyone is clamoring for victimhood status because you get so much for being a victim including being let off the hook for taking responsibility for yourself and your own actions. Whereas, taking responsibility for your own success or failure is a lot of work.

But to put things in perspective: My husband and I were watching the news about this on CNN. Then he turned to me and said, "This is what you consider a problem in your country? This isn't even newsworthy. I wish my country only had 'problems' like this."

"It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt." -

-- Mark Twain

Barry would do well to keep the above quote in mind. He does, after all, have Joe to do the major gaffing.

He may be a citizen, but above all, he is the president of all the people, not merely Skip's bud, or a the leader of aggrevated Black men. He needs to remember to tap down his knee jerk negativity toward authority figures and show some wisdom instead of having such a loose lip. Personally, I'm enjoying how he has been shooting himself in the foot lately. It was highly predictable, since he is such a rank amateur, not ready for prime time poser, but since the lowest common denominators had the last word in the presidential election, we're stuck with him for now and he needs to do more to hold it together like a leader and not like a community organizer.

You should practice what you preach.

Act more presidential? That would please you?

No, follow Mark Twain's advice. :P

The feeling is mutual. ;)

Basing our opinions from what we hear or read on the news. When I heard the story on PBS radio, have to side with Gates and Obama on this issue, that cop acted very inappropriately leading Gates to introduce the race issue.

Race is still an issue in this country like being the only black guy living in a white neighborhood or the only white guy living in an all black neighborhood. But when you think about it, did any of us have a choice of which parents we would be born of, when we were born, where we were born, and which race we would be born with?

We were just kind of stuck here and have to learn to live with it.

He is the freaking president and a human being, of course he has the right to state how he feels. Geezzzzzzzzz give the man a break, compared to the stupid things Bush said this is small peanuts.

Much less harmful to the country than starting two wars and destroying the economy.

Yea but the VJ right is very selective in their outrage. Notice how just about everyone (including Obama supporters) are saying he should have waited until the facts were known & that saying that the police department "acted stupidly" was inappropriate. I can't recall a single time when the VJ right held Bush accountable for anything he said or did.

wonder if he realizes he's an authority figure and should tone down his knee jerk negativity towards himself?

He replied to a question he was asked. Its not as if he issued an official statement. Further, people have been complaining that he hasn't said enough about race-related issues. So now people are mad that this wasn't the "right" issue/event to talk about?

This was not the race-related issues he should have stepped in. Now he has once again polarized many people on the race issue in a negative light, and comes off looking like the racist, along with his professor buddy.

He obviously has no respect for the police or our armed services, which makes him far from looking presidential. You can not undermine the authority of the two groups who protect this country at home and overseas.

He should NOT have commented on the question. Period.
