Congratulations! Because there are MANY threads in this forum about adjusting to life, which specific aspects do you wish to discuss?

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

for me the hardest thing was not working for 9 months (1 month til wedding, 1 month after, 3-4 monts waiting for EAD, 3 months looking for work). It can be really difficult to go from an independent capable person to unemployed and unable to do things by yourself.

Prepare for this with volunteer work, projects, visits from friends and family and a very very sympathetic spouse.

Glad to c u guys here :star: Definitely having a job and being able to make ur own money will help. This is good news for those of u entering with CR1 as u get start working almost immediately, as soon as you have a social security card.

It's nice to have a place like this to vent. How I wish I had this type of support when I arrived here 13 yrs ago!! Did not know anyone and I experienced big culture shock with no one to help me through it :crying::crying::crying: 13 yrs later I am still learning how to adjust to certain things believe it or not!:whistle::wacko: But I try to look at the postives of what America has offered to me and I can't complain. The toughest thing is the separation from family and everything u r used to back home and starting over from scratch.

When I married hubby I flew there after 10 yrs of absence and I cried my eyes out as the airplane flew over Beirut! It was a bitter sweet reunion....The second time I flew there, I cried again! I realized how much I had missed Lebanon and all these years I was pushing it in the back of my mind and trying to live in denial. Don't do that: Embrace ur culture and ur individuality and never try to let go of ur own unique identity. It's what makes America special ...all these cultures blending together. Now if only some ppl accepted diversity as opposed to pushing it away.

I don't have much to add to this thread other than the job situation. I am dying to get a job. It gets boring after a while to sit at home all day without any human interaction other than my husband. I wish to go out more often, I do shopping and all on my own, but I would love to talk to more people, make friends and such.

I don't come from a big family, so I don't really had to deal with missing family as such. The biggest adjustment was food; being from India the food out here is so so different, took a bit of time to get used to the new flavours. One thing good though is that what I hated during my first month out here, now I enjoy those, say lasagna, the first bite I took, I didn't like it at all but now I make it my own and enjoy it.

Also living in apartment, I never lived in apartments before, so it kind of took its time, the only thing I hate about this apartment at least is how small the kitchen is.

Oh my latest worry is health care system out here, that will be a big change for a lot of people immigrating to US, how costly things are and how you need prescription for everything, even BC pills.

thank you very much atk..... u r right atk.. my hubby is like shahrukh of pardesh only....lol... so no worries. i hv pm u my id and will give younumber once i will come thr and buy new mobile number....

the only thing common in me and my hubby is we both hv big family.. but my family is truly indian and his family is indians with americanised ways..:blink: .... just like GS wrote i m also prepared for cultural shock.. also i had very good job in pharma company and i wont get job in usa tht easily as i will hv to study again to become registered pharmacist..

the only good part is i m wrtting prescriptions now and buying medicines from india only as its cheaper here also initially when i will enter in US if i will hv any illness we wont hv to go to doctor often for small illness.. :star:
