Now this is going to be wildly unpopular, but at the end of the day, 'oh there are azzholes here too' shouldn't really be justification for anyone not REALLY scrutinizing everything before leaping. I know, we're an int'l community of support, but I've seen more flags in some posts then in an indy car race. According to the US Government Canada is an easy backdoor to the USA--so I wonder how many of these cases where the immigrant bails in Canada--does the immigrant just come in to the USA? It was obviously a one sided article to make her look like a poor helpless victim and him to look like an evil rat.

Since the U.S. passed the IMBRA law to protect females in other countries from guys in the U.S. Maybe Canada needs to pass a DUMBBRA law to protect woman petitioning men in other countries. Have the law state before you can petition a man your IQ has to be greater than your bra size. LOL

IMBRA isn't just for protecting females...it's for protecting ANYONE that applies. Both genders are subject to IMBRA.

I don't think what md said was that terrible. I agree that the article was very one sided, and the fact that he 'abandoned' the daughter by not picking her up from the bus stop is really besides the point.

I also happen to think that it's not the responsibility of the gov't to allow petitioners off the hook when their spouses do a runner. Look at it this way: if a citizen is vouching for another person, they should be held to that. As a taxpayer, is it *my* responsibility to pay for benefits to a foreign beneficiary who has flucked off? NO WAY! You brought him here, you deal with it!!! If as a child I asked my parents to allow me to have a sleepover, I would certainly make sure that I cleaned up after my friends if they made a mess. I wouldn't expect siblings to have to do it, or my parents to do it. Yes, very simplistic terms, but I see the parallel..hope it's not due to sleep deprivation,

In either case, it is soooooo very important in an int'l relationship to make sure that the beneficiary doesn't have ulterior motives. How to do that? I'm not sure. Ignoring warning signs or 'things that make ya go hrmm' is not very smart tho. But even moreso to custodial parent petitioners to make sure that they are balls-to-the-wall-1000%-certain that there are no sinister motives for welcoming a PHYSICAL stranger into the home who is going to be an influence to a child.

YES New here on visajourney. I have custody. Some stories on this forum about parents and their kids are suprising. Or perhaps I am naive.
